What is Peblar and why is it relevant?
Peblar is the EV charger brand of Prodrive Technologies, a Dutch high-tech company headquartered in Son, near Eindhoven. Prodrive has been building electronics for the automotive industry and semiconductor sector for many years. In June 2023, the company launched the Peblar brand to apply that expertise to EV chargers.
Peblar chargers are designed, tested and produced in the company’s own automated factory in Eindhoven. All electronics are placed on a single printed circuit board (PCB), which limits the number of components and possible points of failure. This explains the robust housing with IK10 impact resistance and IP54 protection against dust and water. You are therefore not buying a white-label product, but an EV charger made by the manufacturer itself.
Peblar Home 11 kW: affordable home charging
The Peblar Home is the accessible model from the brand. With 11 kW (3x 16 A), this EV charger fully charges your car in a few hours, more than enough for an overnight charging session. The charger has a fixed Type 2 socket, so you use your own charging cable. This keeps the cable neatly out of sight when you do not need it.
What do you get as standard?
- Dynamic load balancing via the P1 port, so you never overload a circuit
- Wi-Fi and Ethernet for app control and updates
- Insight into charging sessions and consumption via the Peblar app
- Support for charging with your own solar energy
For a household with one electric car and a standard three-phase connection, this model is the logical choice. Fast enough for daily use, without paying for functions you do not need.
Peblar Business 22 kW with MID meter: for reimbursement and ERE in the Netherlands
The Peblar Business goes one step further. This version charges up to 22 kW (3x 32 A) and includes an integrated MID-certified kWh meter. This meter accurately records how much electricity you charge, which is exactly what you need for two scenarios: business reimbursement and ERE registration in the Netherlands. Please note: ERE registration only applies in the Netherlands.
In addition to the MID meter, you get extra functions:
- Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a built-in 4G module (eSIM) for continuous connectivity
- Bidirectional ready, prepared for V2G and V2H once the infrastructure supports it
- Plug & Charge according to ISO 15118
- Suitable for charging cards and connection to a back office
Do you have a single-phase connection? The Business can be reduced to 7.4 kW. This also makes the model suitable for those who currently charge on single-phase and want to upgrade later without buying a new EV charger. ISO 15118 is the communication standard between car and charger that enables Plug & Charge: plug in the connector and charging starts automatically, without a card or app. The same standard forms the basis for future V2G and smart-grid functions.

ERE registration and the role of the MID meter
Please note: ERE registration only applies in the Netherlands. Since 1 January 2026, the ERE scheme has been active in the Netherlands. With this scheme, you receive compensation for electricity that you charge at home and then use for business purposes. The compensation is around €0.10 per kWh, with retroactive effect for charging sessions from the start of the scheme.
If you want to use ERE certificates in the Netherlands, a MID-certified meter is not optional but required. Only this type of measurement is accepted for reimbursement. The Peblar Business has the MID meter built in directly, so you do not need to install a separate meter next to the charger. On our overview page with MID meter EV chargers, you can see all models that meet this requirement.
Who is a Peblar EV Charger suitable for?
Do you drive a Tesla, Volkswagen ID, Kia EV or another modern electric model? Then Peblar fits without any problems, thanks to the Type 2 connection that is the European standard. We most often see three typical use cases:
- The home user. One EV, a three-phase connection and mainly charging at night. The Peblar Home 11 kW is sufficient and keeps the price attractive. Also view our other options for a home EV charger.
- The freelancer or lease driver. Do you want to declare your charging sessions with your employer or as an entrepreneur? Then you need the MID meter of the Business model.
- The future-focused homeowner. Do you combine your EV charger with solar panels and are you considering a home battery later? Then you benefit from Peblar’s smart functions. For maximum charging power, look at the 22 kW EV charger category.
Installation and warranty
A Peblar EV Charger can be mounted on a wall or on a mounting pole. Installation should be left to a certified electrician, because connecting to a three-phase circuit requires a separate type B residual-current circuit breaker and usually a new circuit in the electrical cabinet. Expect installation to take half a day to a full day, depending on the cable length to your electrical cabinet.
Would you rather arrange everything in one go? Then view our EV charger including installation. A certified installer visits your location, connects the charger and sets it up immediately. Peblar provides a standard 3-year manufacturer’s warranty on the product.
Smart charging with load balancing
Dynamic load balancing is a function you often see mentioned, but it is rarely explained clearly. The principle is simple: the charger measures via the P1 port how much electricity your home is using at that moment. Are the washing machine, hob and dishwasher running at the same time? Then the car temporarily charges a little more slowly. Once those appliances are finished, the charging power automatically increases again.
This prevents the circuit from tripping on a busy evening. Would you like to know more about this? Read our explanation of the EV charger with load balancing.
Frequently asked questions about Peblar EV Chargers
Can I upgrade a Peblar Home to the Business version later?
No, the models are sold separately and cannot be expanded through a software update. The MID meter and 4G module are physically only present in the Business model. If you think you may want to reimburse charging sessions or apply for ERE registration in the Netherlands in the future, it is best to choose the Business model straight away.
Does a Peblar EV Charger work with solar panels?
Yes. Through the P1 port, the charger knows how much electricity your solar panels are generating. You can set the car to preferably charge using solar energy, which is useful on sunny days when you would otherwise feed electricity back to the grid at a lower rate.
Do I need a subscription to use Peblar?
No. The basic functions, the Peblar app and the local API work without a subscription. Only if you use a back office for business reimbursement do you choose a provider, and that provider charges its own fee.
Is Peblar suitable for a single-phase connection?
The Peblar Home works best on a three-phase connection. The Peblar Business can be switched back to single-phase, where it charges up to 7.4 kW. For a single-phase household, that is already a significant improvement compared with charging from a regular socket.
