Hyundai IONIQ 5 Standard Range EV charger: which one fits best?

With 54 kWh of usable capacity, the Standard Range carries the smallest battery in the IONIQ 5 line. At home that works in your favour: of all the versions, this one is back to full the fastest. It charges at up to 11 kW through a Type 2 socket, so an 11 kW three-phase wallbox is the logical choice. Our overview of Hyundai EV chargers puts the IONIQ 5 versions side by side.

For the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Standard Range we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Standard Range?

This version charges at 11 kW at home, so an 11 kW three-phase wallbox uses exactly what the car accepts. Three-phase means the charger draws on all three phases of your fuse box at once. A 22 kW unit adds nothing, because the on-board charger never takes more than 11 kW. That on-board charger is the part inside the car that converts the mains supply for the battery.

The meter deserves a second look. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter built into the charger. It counts only the electricity that went into the car. Your charging stays separate from the rest of the household, and the certification makes the reading legally valid. We stock chargers with this meter at both 11 kW and 22 kW. You will find them in our chargers with a MID meter.

How long does the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Standard Range take to charge?

Reckon on about 5 hours from empty to full: 54 kWh divided by 11 kW lands just under five. That makes the Standard Range quicker to fill at home than the larger IONIQ 5 versions. Plug in during the evening and you have a full battery in the morning. That also suits a dynamic energy contract with cheap night-time hours.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Standard Range charge faster than the larger IONIQ 5 versions?

At home it does. Every IONIQ 5 version charges at 11 kW on alternating current, but the Standard Range has the smallest battery. It therefore goes from empty to full the quickest: around 5 hours against roughly 6.5 for the larger packs.

Is 11 kW enough for this car, or do I need 22 kW?

11 kW is exactly enough. The IONIQ 5 Standard Range never charges faster than 11 kW on alternating current, so a 22 kW wallbox gains you nothing. Put that money towards a charger with a built-in MID meter instead.

Should a qualified electrician install the charger?

We strongly recommend it. A qualified electrician connects the unit safely and to standard, which also matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Rules differ per country, so check what applies where you live.
