BMW iX2 xDrive30 and eDrive20 EV charger: which one fits best?

The BMW iX2 comes as the eDrive20 with front-wheel drive and the xDrive30 with all-wheel drive. That difference does not affect your charger choice. Both versions charge at 11 kW on alternating current at home and share the same battery pack. A three-phase 11 kW charger is therefore the logical pick for both. Three-phase means your home connection delivers power over three separate phases instead of one. Also see our overview of all BMW EV chargers.

For the BMW iX2 xDrive30 and eDrive20 we recommend a charger from our 11 kW range.

Which EV charger suits the BMW iX2?

With the standard 11 kW onboard charger you fill the iX2 overnight at home. The iX2 charges through a Type 2 connection, the standard connector for home charging in Europe.

It pays to look for a charger with a built-in MID meter. That is a certified kWh meter inside the charger itself. Because it sits in the charger, it measures your charging separately from the rest of your household use. The certification makes that reading legally valid. So you see exactly what charging at home costs you. We carry chargers with this meter at both 11 kW and 22 kW.

See all 11 kW chargers in our range. We arrange the installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Outside those three countries we ship the charger but do not install it. We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician, which is safer and matters for your insurance.

How long does the BMW iX2 take to charge?

With an 11 kW charger you fill the 64.7 kWh battery in about 6 hours. That makes overnight charging at home easy. This applies to the eDrive20 and the xDrive30 alike, because both use the same onboard charger. On the road the iX2 charges at a fast charger on direct current, up to 130 kW. A short stop therefore adds a decent chunk of range.

Frequently asked questions

Do the BMW iX2 eDrive20 and xDrive30 charge at the same speed at home?

Yes. Both versions have a standard 11 kW onboard charger and the same battery pack. The charging time at home is therefore identical. The difference between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive has no effect on charging.

Why does a MID meter matter on the iX2?

A certified kWh meter inside the charger records your charging accurately. You then see what charging at home costs, separately from your household use. Because the meter is certified, the reading is accurate enough to rely on.
