Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance EV charger: which one fits best?
The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance has a 77 kWh usable battery. At home it charges at up to 11 kW on a three-phase connection. A 22 kW charger adds nothing for this version, because the onboard charger of the VW ID.4 Pro Performance is capped at 11 kW. A good 11 kW charger is therefore exactly what you need. Want to look wider first? The other ID.4 versions each have their own page, listed on our overview of all Volkswagen EV chargers.
For the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger fits the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance?
Since this version charges at a maximum of 11 kW AC at home, an 11 kW charger is the logical choice. A 22 kW unit will not speed anything up. The onboard charger caps the intake, whatever the wall box delivers.
A MID meter is a certified kWh meter built into the charger. It turns your home charging into an exact figure, instead of an unknown share of the household bill. There is one thing to know before you compare. Almost every charger with a built-in certified meter in our range sits in the 22 kW category. At 11 kW the choice is narrow, so check the specification of each unit before you order from our EV chargers with a MID meter.
Load balancing earns its place on this car because of how long it charges. A full session runs seven to eight hours. During that time the rest of the house draws power too. Load balancing means the charger reads what the home is using. It then lowers its own speed to stay inside the limit of your connection. Our EV chargers with dynamic load balancing do that automatically.
App control makes the same long session easier to place. With an app you set the ID.4 to charge in the cheapest hours, and check afterwards what actually went in. That is what our EV chargers with an app are built for. If you do not need app control or load balancing, a straightforward model from our EV home chargers will do the job.
The ID.4 charges on alternating current through a Type 2 connector. A separate Type 2 charging cable is only needed at public charge points that have a socket instead of a fixed cable.
We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flanders in Belgium and Germany. Shipping is worldwide but installation is not, so check that your country is on that list. Wherever you are, we recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is safer and important for your insurance.
How long does the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance take to charge?
The maths is simple: 77 kWh divided by 11 kW comes out at roughly 7 hours of pure charging time. Add the usual charging losses and in practice it takes 7.5 to 8 hours, from nearly empty to full. Plug it in during the evening and it is ready in the morning without any planning. A 22 kW charger changes nothing here, because this ID.4 never accepts more than 11 kW AC. On the road it charges through the CCS rapid charging connector at up to roughly 140 kW DC.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance need a three-phase connection?
For the full 11 kW, yes. On a single-phase connection the car still charges reasonably. With 32 amps it reaches 7.4 kW. Only on a 16 amp supply does it fall back to 3.7 kW. A single-phase home is therefore workable. It simply means a longer session. Rules for upgrading a connection vary by country, so ask your local grid operator what applies.
Can the ID.4 Pro Performance charge faster on a 22 kW charger?
No. The onboard charger of the ID.4 Pro Performance is capped at 11 kW AC. Even on a 22 kW unit the car charges at 11 kW at home. For this version an 11 kW charger is enough. You only pay for capacity the car can actually use.
Do I need an EV charger with a MID meter?
You need one if you want to know exactly what charging at home costs, separate from the rest of your electricity bill. A certified kWh meter is what makes that reading count. A built-in meter is far simpler than adding a separate one later, so it is worth deciding before you order. At 11 kW the selection is limited, which is useful to know before you start comparing.
