Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid EV charger: which one fits best?

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid is the estate version of the top Panamera. This page covers the car built from 2017 to 2020, with the 14.1 kWh battery. The facelift from the end of 2020 has a 17.9 kWh battery, so check which build year you have.

As a plug-in hybrid it charges at home at up to 7.2 kW. The on-board charger is the unit inside the car that converts AC power for the battery. On this Panamera the 7.2 kW on-board charger was an option. As standard the car has a 3.6 kW unit, and no charger makes that any faster.

It uses a Type 2 plug, the standard European connector for AC charging. DC fast charging is not available, so a good home charger is exactly what you need. Also see our overview of every Porsche EV charger.

For the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers.

Check first whether your car has the optional 7.2 kW on-board charger. With the standard 3.6 kW charger no EV charger will make it any faster.

Which EV charger suits the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid?

This Panamera charges at up to 7.2 kW at home. For the optional 7.2 kW on-board charger, Porsche quotes a 230 volt supply at 32 amps. At that supply the battery is full in 2.4 hours. A 7.4 kW charger delivers exactly that, on a single phase. That named figure is the reason we recommend it.

An 11 kW charger splits its power over three phases, at 16 amps each. This Panamera may then draw only around 3.7 kW, about twice as slow. That can mean roughly 5 hours instead of 2.5 hours. A 22 kW charger costs more and is no faster here. A plug-in hybrid never charges beyond its own on-board charger.

A 7.4 kW charger does draw 32 amps on one phase. That is a heavy load for a home connection. Have an electrician check your connection and your fuse box before you order. It is a short job and it tells you straight away what your home can handle.

One point is worth knowing at this power level. A MID meter is a built-in kWh meter that is officially calibrated, so its readings stand up for billing. It shows exactly what charging the car costs you, separate from the rest of your household use. In our range, chargers with a MID meter start at 11 kW. No 7.4 kW model has one, so this is a real choice between a calibrated meter and full charging speed.

Several of our 7.4 kW models work with an app. You can start a session and follow it on your phone. See our EV chargers with an app for those. At home the Panamera charges through the cable fixed to the charger. For public charging points you take a Type 2 charging cable with you.

How long does the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid take to charge?

With 7.2 kW going in and a 14.1 kWh battery, this Panamera is full in about 2.5 hours. That figure includes charging losses, so it sits a little above the plain sum. Plug it in during the evening and it is ready long before morning.

Charging time also depends on which on-board charger the car was ordered with. With the standard 3.6 kW unit, count on roughly 5 hours to charge the battery. These times are for the 14.1 kWh battery in the 2017 to 2020 car. The facelift from the end of 2020 has a 17.9 kWh battery and different charging times.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a newer Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid?

No. Porsche dropped the Sport Turismo, the estate version of the Panamera, from the generation that arrived in 2024. There was one update before that. The facelift from the end of 2020 got a bigger battery, 17.9 kWh instead of 14.1 kWh. This page describes the 2017 to 2020 car with the 14.1 kWh battery, so check which build year you have.

Do I need a three-phase connection?

No. Porsche quotes a 230 volt supply at 32 amps for the optional 7.2 kW on-board charger. A 7.4 kW charger delivers exactly that, on a single phase. It draws 32 amps, which is a lot for one phase. Let an electrician check your connection and fuse box first.

A three-phase 11 kW charger is not an upgrade here. It can even charge this car more slowly. We always advise having the charger connected by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance.
