MG MG4 EV charger: an overview per version
The MG MG4 charges through a Type 2 inlet and comes in four versions. Each one carries its own battery and its own range, but they all charge at the same power. Only the charging time differs per version. Below you compare them at a glance and click through to the page with concrete advice. The right EV charger for the MG MG4
These four versions charge at home on alternating current through a Type 2 inlet. Their on-board charger, the part inside the car that limits AC charging, tops out at 6.6 kW. That figure is single-phase, so the car draws its power from one live wire.
The newer MG4, on sale since 2026, is a different story. It carries an 11 kW three-phase on-board charger as standard, so it uses every bit of an 11 kW unit. That is why we point you at 11 kW: it charges the new generation at full speed and stays useful when you change cars.
Drive one of the four versions above and want the shortest possible charge? Then a single-phase 32 A charger suits them better, because an 11 kW unit splits its current over three phases and hands one of them to your car. You can compare those in our 7.4 kW EV chargers.
Look at the MID meter as well, a certified kWh meter inside the charger. It records exactly how much you charge, which makes a session easy to settle with an employer or a lease company. In our range that meter starts at 11 kW: most models in the chargers with a MID meter are 22 kW units, and none of the 7.4 kW models carry one.
Whichever power you pick, start with the EV chargers for home use. The MG4 uses a type 2 connector, so you need your own type 2 charging cable for charging away from home.

What charging power does the MG MG4 have at home?
These four versions charge on alternating current through a Type 2 inlet, at up to 6.6 kW. Count on roughly 9 hours and 15 minutes for the 50.8 kWh battery and 13 hours and 15 minutes for the 74.4 kWh one. The page for your own version lists the exact time.
Do I need a three-phase connection for the MG MG4?
These four versions do not need one, because they charge on a single phase. Three phases still pay off later, since the newer MG4 and most recent EVs charge at 11 kW. We always advise having the charger connected by a qualified electrician, and we arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany.
