EV charging cable for BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence

The BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence has a mennekes connection, so it requires a type 2 ev charging cable. The car has a 3-phase 11 kW charging capacity. It is therefore only possible to use a phase 3 ev charging cable of 11 or 22 KW if you charge 11 kW.

Wallbox for BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence

The electric BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence has a maximum charging power of 11 kW with an usable battery capacity of 82.5 kWh. This means that charging via a wallbox is advisable. A number of things are useful to know for this. An EV Charger with a higher charging capacity will not charge more than the maximum load capacity of your car, but it can't hurt either. An EV Charger with a lower charging power is also possible and can be useful, for example, when the fuse box is not suitable for the maximum charging capacity of the car. The EV Charger will never charge more than it's own maximum charging amount. Wallboxes have 4 charging capacities, provided that these cannot be adjusted yourself:

3.7 kW wallbox (1 phase of 16A): will charge a maximum of 3.7 kW for this car.
7.4 kW wallbox (1 phase of 32A): will charge a maximum of 3.7 kW for this car.
11 kW wallbox (3 phases of 16A): will charge a maximum of 11 kW for this car.
22 kW wallbox (3 phases of 32A) : will charge a maximum of 11 kW for this car

Fuse box connection for the wallbox
Choosing the best wallbox for your BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence depends not only on the possibilities of the car but also for a large part of the fuse box connection at home or company. Especially whether you have a 1 or 3 phase connection at home or at work. The BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence can charge on 3 phases and can therefore load the maximum charging capacity if your grid connection is at least 3 x 16A. If you don’t have a 3 phase connection (yet), you can still use a 3 phase wallbox. You can just connect 1 phase of the ev charger, so you can still charge your car. If you switch to a 3 phase grid connection later, you can just connect the other 2 phases.

If you have a 1 phase connection, you cannot charge the maximum charging capacity of 11 kW, you will always only charge a maximum of 3.7 kW regardless of the power of the wallbox. You can also read this article from us with more information about the connection in your fuse box.

Mobile EV Charger for BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence

With most portable ev chargers (also called mobile ev charger), you can often charge your hybrid or electric car through a normal socket at home. So is the BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence. Sockets at home have a power of about 220 volt, depending on your country. A mobile EV charger is equipped in such a way that it can be connected to that power grid.

For your BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence you need to have a Type 2 mobile ev charger. Of course, charging at home via the socket is less fast, but it can certainly be sufficient for hybrid or electric cars with a smaller battery. A mobile ev charger for your home socket can usually charge 2.3 or 3.7 kW  (10 or 16A). Due to the high battery capacity of the BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence, we recommend using a portable ev charger mainly as a backup or as an emergency solution.

Mobile Wallbox for BYD SEAL 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence

Besides a portable ev charger, there is also a portable ev charging station. These are called a mobile wallbox. Such an ev charger has the charging amount of a wallbox but is still portable. Just like a regular wallbox with 22 kW, you can also use a mobile wallbox 22 kW, but it will not charge your faster than the 11 kW mobile wallbox.
