The Polestar 3 charges at home at 11 kW on alternating current, through a Type 2 connection. All three versions share the same 111 kWh battery and behave the same way while charging. What differs is power and range, not the charger you need. Compare the versions below or browse all Polestar EV chargers.

For the Polestar 3 we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Polestar 3?

Every Polestar 3 charges at 11 kW AC, so an 11 kW charger is the logical choice. An 11 kW charger does need a three-phase supply at home. Three-phase means your home connection carries three live wires instead of one. On a single-phase supply, charging this car is considerably slower. A 22 kW charger will not make it any faster, because the car sets the limit.

At 11 kW you can also choose a charger with a built-in MID meter. That is an officially certified kWh meter, so its readings are reliable. It measures your charging separately from the rest of your household use, so you can see exactly what a charge costs you. Compare all 11 kW EV chargers, or look specifically at chargers with a MID meter, which in our range start at 11 kW.

How long does the Polestar 3 take to charge?

The usable battery capacity is 107 kWh. At an 11 kW charger, a full charge from empty takes about 10 to 11 hours, including charging losses. Plug the car in around 10 pm and it is ready in the morning. On a single-phase supply that takes considerably longer. On the road, CCS fast charging is much quicker, but that is not a home scenario. CCS is the public rapid-charging standard, which uses direct current instead of alternating current.

Bidirectional charging with the Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 is prepared for bidirectional charging. The car can then send power back to your home (vehicle-to-home) or to the grid (vehicle-to-grid). There is one catch: on the Polestar 3 this runs through a separate direct current (DC) system. A regular AC charger is not part of that setup. A standard 11 kW wallbox charges the car well, but it does not enable feeding power back. Chargers that do support two-way charging form their own category, and our bidirectional EV chargers show what is on the market today.

Frequently asked questions about the Polestar 3

What charging power does the Polestar 3 have at home?

Every version of the Polestar 3 charges at up to 11 kW AC through a Type 2 connection. For that you need a three-phase supply at home. On a single-phase supply the car still charges, but considerably slower.

Does the charger depend on which Polestar 3 I have?

No. Single Motor, Dual Motor and Performance share the same battery and the same maximum AC charging power. The difference between them is power and range, not the charger you need.

Do I need a qualified electrician to install the charger?

Rules differ per country, so check what applies where you live. We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany.
