DS 9 E-Tense 250 EV charger: which one fits best?
The DS 9 E-Tense 250 is a plug-in hybrid that charges at home at up to 7.4 kW over a single phase. The car uses one of the three phases in your fuse box, and never charges faster than its own on-board charger allows. A charger that delivers 7.4 kW on one phase is therefore exactly right. Other versions of this model have their own charging data, which you find on our DS 9 E-Tense page. For every other DS model, start in the DS Automobiles EV charger overview.
For the DS 9 E-Tense 250 we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger fits the DS 9 E-Tense 250?
This car takes 7.4 kW on a single phase at 32 A. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger therefore gives it full speed. A three-phase 11 kW wallbox is a step down here, not up. It supplies 16 A on each of its three phases, and the DS 9 uses only one. That leaves 3.7 kW, so charging takes roughly twice as long.
Two features are worth checking at this power level. Load balancing measures what the rest of your house is drawing. It lowers the charging power when the house needs a lot at once. That keeps your fuse box out of trouble, and chargers with dynamic load balancing do it on their own. With panels on the roof, a charger for solar surplus charging waits for the sun instead of the grid. That suits a battery this small particularly well.
One thing our 7.4 kW range does not offer is a built-in MID meter. That is a calibrated kWh meter inside the charger. It records your charging separately from the rest of your household use. The calibration means the figure is exact rather than an estimate. Chargers with a built-in meter are available in our 11 kW range, listed under chargers with a MID meter. For this car that means trading half your charging speed for the meter. Charging then takes about twice as long, every evening.
Our 7.4 kW EV chargers all deliver that full single-phase speed. For a wider view, our home EV chargers page covers everything that suits a house connection. Our advice is independent, because we are not tied to a single brand.
How long does the DS 9 E-Tense 250 take to charge?
On a 7.4 kW charger the battery fills in about 2.5 hours, from empty to full, charging losses included. On an ordinary wall socket that easily takes a whole evening, so a fixed charger saves real time. Move to a three-phase 11 kW wallbox and the time roughly doubles. The car falls back to 3.7 kW on one phase. Speed here comes from the phase, not from the power rating on the box.
Which connection does the DS 9 E-Tense 250 use?
The DS 9 E-Tense 250 has a Type 2 connection, like almost every modern charger. At home you charge through the fixed cable or the socket of the charger itself. A separate Type 2 charging cable is only needed when you charge at a public point away from home.

Frequently asked questions
Does the DS 9 E-Tense 250 need a three-phase charger?
No, and three phases would slow it down. The DS 9 E-Tense 250 charges at home at a maximum of 7.4 kW over one phase, at 32 A. An 11 kW wallbox delivers three phases of 16 A, and the car uses only one, so it drops to 3.7 kW. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger is the right match.
Can this DS 9 use a charger with a MID meter?
Not at 7.4 kW. A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter built into the charger. In our range you find one on the 11 kW chargers. Choosing one means accepting 3.7 kW instead of 7.4 kW on this car. If you need a calibrated reading of what you charge at home, weigh that halved speed against it first.
Do I need to have the charger installed?
We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician, which is safer and matters for your insurance. Rules differ by country, so check what applies where you live. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany, and nowhere else. Shipping is worldwide, but installation is not.
