How long does it take to charge the Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance?
Using an 11 kW EV charger, the usable 64 kWh battery can theoretically be charged in just under six hours. When normal charging losses are taken into account, you should allow approximately six to six and a half hours from almost empty to full. If you connect the vehicle in the evening, it will be ready again the following morning with a charged battery.
To use the full 11 kW charging power, you need a 3-phase connection rated at 3 × 16 amps. If only a single-phase connection is available at home, the vehicle normally charges at a maximum of 3.7 kW. A full charge may then take approximately 18 to 20 hours.
On the road, the EX30 charges through a CCS fast-charging connection at up to approximately 153 kW DC. Under favourable conditions, the battery can therefore be charged from 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes. The actual charging speed depends on factors including battery temperature, state of charge and the output of the fast-charging station.
The Volvo EX30 has a Type 2 connection. You need a separate Type 2 charging cable for an EV charger with a socket or when charging at a public charging station without a fixed cable.

Yes. To use the full AC charging power of 11 kW, you need a 3-phase connection rated at 3 × 16 amps. On a single-phase connection, the EX30 normally charges at a maximum of 3.7 kW. A qualified electrician can check whether your electrical connection is suitable for 3-phase charging.
Why is a MID meter useful for the Volvo EX30?
A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records charging consumption accurately and transparently. This is particularly useful when you use the EX30 as a company or lease vehicle and want the home charging costs to be reimbursed by your employer or business. In the Netherlands, a MID meter may also be required for ERE registration. The ERE scheme is only available in the Netherlands. If the EV charger does not have an integrated MID meter, a separate MID-certified energy meter can be installed.
Can I charge the EX30 with a 22 kW EV charger?
Yes. A 22 kW EV charger can charge the Volvo EX30 without any problem, but the version described here will still charge at a maximum of 11 kW. A 22 kW EV charger therefore does not reduce the charging time. It may still be useful if another electric vehicle with a higher AC charging capacity will be connected later.
