MINI EV charger: which model suits your car?

Almost every electric MINI charges at home at 11 kW alternating current, over a Type 2 connection. That holds for the compact Cooper just as much as for the roomier Countryman. Which EV charger suits your MINI depends mainly on your home connection. It also depends on how closely you want to track what charging costs you. Below you will find the charging specifications per MINI model, with a direct link to the model page and its advice.

Which EV charger suits a MINI?

Almost every electric MINI charges at home at 11 kW at most, so an 11 kW charger is a safe choice. A faster 22 kW unit adds nothing in practice. The one exception is the Countryman SE ALL4 with the optional 22 kW onboard charger. For that car, our 22 kW EV chargers are the range to look at. One thing to keep in mind: you only reach 11 kW at home if you have a three-phase connection. On a single-phase connection your MINI charges at 3.7 kW, which is enough to fill up overnight.

It pays to look at a charger with a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter, so it records every charging session accurately. That shows you what charging at home costs, separately from the rest of your electricity bill. You can filter on it in our charging stations with a MID meter. Our 11 kW EV chargers all charge a MINI at its full speed.

Load balancing is worth checking too. The charger measures how much capacity your home connection still has and lowers the charging speed on its own. That way you do not trip the fuse while your washing machine, dishwasher and oven are running. Our EV chargers with dynamic load balancing do that without any input from you.

All MINI models at Wallbox Discounter

For every version of an electric MINI we have a separate page with charger advice and the charging times for that model:

We always recommend having the charger fitted by a qualified electrician, so you know the connection is safe. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany only. In Germany that runs through a free quotation rather than an order you place at checkout. We ship almost all our products worldwide, but installation runs only in those three countries.

Frequently asked questions about MINI EV chargers

What charging power do most MINI cars have?

Almost every electric MINI model charges at home at 11 kW alternating current at most, over a Type 2 connection. Only the Countryman SE ALL4 is available with an optional 22 kW onboard charger. Whether you reach that power depends on your home connection. You need three phases for the full 11 kW; on a single phase you charge at 3.7 kW.

Do I need an EV charger with a MID meter for my MINI?

You do not have to have one, but it is useful. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter, so it measures every charging session accurately. That shows you what charging at home costs, apart from the rest of your household use. On the model page for your MINI you can pick a charger that has one.
