Which EV charger suits a BMW?
Most fully electric BMW models charge at up to 11 kW over a three-phase connection. With a suitable 11 kW EV charger, models such as the i3, i4, i5, i7, iX, iX1 and iX3 can make full use of their AC charging capacity. BMW electric and plug-in hybrid models use a Type 2 connection for AC charging.
If you drive a BMW plug-in hybrid, the suitable charging power depends more strongly on the specific version. Many of these models charge at between 3.7 and 7.4 kW. A more powerful EV charger will not necessarily charge the car faster, because the vehicle's onboard charger determines the maximum AC charging power.
Also consider the built-in energy meter when choosing an EV charger. A charger with a MID meter contains a certified kWh meter that accurately records how much electricity is delivered through the charging point.
