Which EV charger fits the Opel Mokka-e?

Do you have the optional 11 kW onboard charger and a three-phase connection? Then an 11 kW charger gets the most out of the car. The Mokka-e is full in about five hours. With the standard 7.4 kW charger, or on single-phase, a 7.4 kW EV charger is enough. An 11 kW charger works just as well in that case. It automatically adjusts the power to what your car accepts.

Pay attention to the meter as well. An MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records your charging exactly. That is what makes a home charging session billable to an employer or a leasing company. Drivers in the Netherlands get a second benefit from that same meter. The Dutch ERE registration scheme pays up to 500 euro a year, and it is available in the Netherlands only.

Beyond charging speed, two categories are worth a look for this car. An EV charger with an app lets you start charging at a set time. That pays off if you have a dynamic or off-peak tariff. How long does the Opel Mokka-e take to charge?

The sum is simple: battery capacity divided by charging power. With the standard 7.4 kW charger an empty 50 kWh battery takes about 7 hours. With the optional 11 kW charger the Mokka-e is full in about 5 hours. Plug the car in during the evening and it is ready in the morning either way. On the road you fast charge on direct current at up to 100 kW.

The Mokka-e has a Type 2 connection for charging at home, the same as the chargers in our range. If you also want to charge the car elsewhere, a separate type 2 charging cable comes in handy. At home you charge through the fixed connection of the charger.

No, the Mokka-e charges at 7.4 kW over single-phase as standard. The 11 kW charger is an option and needs a three-phase connection. Check the specification of your own car to see which onboard charger it has. That sets your maximum charging speed at home.

Do I need an EV charger with an MID meter?

You need one as soon as your charging has to be accounted for. That is often the case for a company car or a lease car, because employers reimburse on a certified meter reading. Charging purely privately? Then an MID meter is not a requirement. It does give you an exact picture of what charging your Mokka-e costs.
