MG EV charger: which model suits your car?
MG builds electric cars that charge at very different speeds at home. Some versions take 11 kW on a three-phase supply, which uses three live wires instead of one. Others charge single-phase, over one live wire only. Those versions stop at 6.6 or 7 kW. That difference decides which charger you should buy. The right MG home charger therefore depends on your exact version, not on the model name alone.

The MGS5 EV Long Range and the MGS6 EV are missing from this table. Sources still disagree on their AC charging power, so we would rather print nothing than print a guess. Check the onboard charger figure in your own car's papers.
Which EV charger suits an MG?
Most of the current MG range charges three-phase at 11 kW. That covers the MG5 Electric, the Marvel R and the Cyberster. It also covers the MG4 with a 64 kWh or 77 kWh battery. The MG4 Urban joins them in Comfort, Luxury and Premium trim. So does the ZS EV Extended Range built from March 2023. These versions use the full 11 kW at home.
For the three-phase MG models we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.
Roughly half of the range charges single-phase instead. The advice then flips. The MG4 Standard Range and the ZS EV Standard reach 6.6 kW. They need 32 A on a single phase to get there. The ZS EV Extended Range built before March 2023 works the same way. So does the pre-facelift ZS EV of 2021, with its 44.5 kWh battery.
The MG4 Urban Active, the German entry trim with the 43 kWh battery, charges single-phase at 7 kW. The MGS5 EV Standard Range does the same.
On an 11 kW charger (3 x 16 A) all of these take one phase. They then drop to about 3.7 kW. That almost halves their charging speed, on a charger they can never use fully.
The plug-in hybrids sit in the same group. The current HS, sold as the EHS until October 2024, charges single-phase at about 7 kW. It also needs 32 A on one phase for full speed. The older EHS never passes 3.7 kW on any charger, so extra power does nothing for it.
For the single-phase MG models we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers.
Not sure which half your MG falls in? The model pages below give the charging power per version. Check yours before you order an MG wall charger. A charger on the wall is hard to swap later.
A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter built into the charger. It measures the electricity you charge at home separately from your household use, so you know exactly what charging costs.
One honest warning: our 7.4 kW chargers do not have one. Almost none of our 11 kW chargers carries a MID meter either. You mainly find calibrated meters on 22 kW chargers, which need a three-phase 32 A supply. No MG charges faster than 11 kW, so a 22 kW charger never lifts that ceiling. A single-phase MG does get its full power there, the same as on a 7.4 kW charger. At 22 kW you buy the meter, not extra speed.
You can pick an MG charging station with app control at every power level. You then follow each charging session on your phone.
Wallbox Discounter can arrange the installation in the Netherlands, Flanders in Belgium and Germany. In Germany that runs through a free quotation instead of a bookable product. We ship worldwide, but installation stops at those three countries. Elsewhere, ask a qualified electrician to connect your charger.

Frequently asked questions about MG EV chargers
What charging power do most MG cars have?
Most fully electric MG models charge three-phase at 11 kW. That includes the MG5, the Marvel R, the Cyberster and the MG4 with a 64 kWh or 77 kWh battery. Other versions charge single-phase at 6.6 kW, such as the MG4 Standard Range and the ZS EV Standard. The MG4 Urban Active and the MGS5 EV Standard Range charge single-phase at 7 kW. The current HS plug-in hybrid sits at about 7 kW. The older EHS, built up to May 2024, never passes 3.7 kW. Check your own model page for the figure that applies to your car.
Does my MG need a MID meter in the EV charger?
A MID meter sits in the charger, not in the car, so no MG needs one in order to charge. It is useful for another reason. The calibrated meter records your charging apart from your household use. You then see exactly what a full battery costs you. Our 7.4 kW chargers do not offer this, so weigh it up before you settle on a power level.
