The Volkswagen ID. Buzz NWB Pro and NWB GTX can both charge at home at a maximum of 11 kW AC using a Type 2 connection. This is the limit of the onboard charger, so a more powerful EV charger will not charge this electric van any faster. It is more important to choose a three-phase EV charger with the right functions. NWB Pro and NWB GTX compared

The NWB Pro and NWB GTX share the same usable 79 kWh battery capacity and the same charging power. The difference is in the drivetrain: the Pro has rear-wheel drive, while the GTX has all-wheel drive and more power, resulting in a slightly shorter driving range.

Which EV charger is suitable for the ID. Buzz NWB Pro or NWB GTX?

Because both versions can accept a maximum of 11 kW AC, a three-phase 11 kW EV charger is the best choice. A 22 kW EV charger will not provide a higher charging speed at home because the car’s onboard charger limits the charging power to 11 kW. When you need an accurate and verifiable record of the electricity used for charging, for example for reimbursement by an employer, leasing company or your own business, choose an EV charger with an integrated MID meter.

How long does it take to charge the ID. Buzz NWB?

The calculation is the same for both versions because they share the same battery and charging power. With a usable battery capacity of 79 kWh and a charging power of 11 kW, a complete charge from empty to full takes approximately 8.5 hours, including normal charging losses. If you connect the van at 23:00 in the evening, it will be fully charged again the following morning. During a journey, the ID. Buzz can charge at a DC fast charger at up to 185 kW, taking approximately 26 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. If your home only has a single-phase connection, the charging power is limited to 3.7 kW and a full charge takes considerably longer. In that case, we recommend requesting a three-phase connection from your grid operator.

Which version do I have, the NWB Pro or NWB GTX?

The NWB GTX is the high-performance version with all-wheel drive and 340 hp. It can be recognised by features including the GTX badge and the second electric motor on the front axle. The NWB Pro has rear-wheel drive and 286 hp. There is no difference in terms of home charging: both versions can charge at up to 11 kW and have a usable battery capacity of 79 kWh.

Does the ID. Buzz NWB charge faster with a 22 kW EV charger?

No. The onboard charger of both the NWB Pro and NWB GTX is limited to 11 kW AC. A 22 kW EV charger will therefore still provide no more than 11 kW to this vehicle. A three-phase 11 kW EV charger provides exactly the charging power you need.

Do the recommended EV chargers have a MID meter?

The Zaptec Go 2 has an integrated MID meter and is therefore suitable for accurate energy measurement, business reimbursement and ERE registration. ERE certificates are only applicable in the Netherlands. The Easee Charge Up and Easee Charge Lite do not have an integrated MID meter. We recommend having the charger connected by a qualified installer. This is safer and can be important for your insurance coverage.
