Lexus UX 300e EV charger: which one fits best?
The Lexus UX 300e charges at home with a maximum of 6.6 kW, on a single phase. That makes the charger choice for this car different from most EVs. A three-phase 11 kW charger does not charge the UX 300e faster. It actually charges it slower than a single-phase 7.4 kW model. We explain how that works and which charger suits you best. Lexus builds more electric models, and each one asks for a different charger. Our overview of all Lexus EV chargers puts them side by side.
For the Lexus UX 300e we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers.
Charging specifications of the Lexus UX 300e
The UX 300e was built between 2020 and 2022. Its onboard charger takes a maximum of 6.6 kW on AC, on one phase. A more powerful charger changes nothing about that. The car sets the limit, not the charger.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Usable battery capacity | approx. 50 kWh (54.3 kWh gross) |
| Max. AC charging power (home) | 6.6 kW (single-phase) |
| Range (WLTP) | approx. 305 km |
| Charging time with a 7.4 kW EV charger | approx. 7.5 hours |
| Charging connector | Type 2 (Mennekes) |
Why a 7.4 kW EV charger is often smarter than 11 kW
Here the UX 300e differs from the average electric car. It only charges on one phase, so the power per phase is what counts. A single phase is the standard supply in most homes; a three-phase supply splits the power over three separate wires. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger delivers 32 amps on that one phase, and so the full 6.6 kW. That charger runs on one phase, so you do not need a three-phase supply at home. A three-phase 11 kW charger splits its power across three phases of 16 amps. The UX 300e then draws only 3.7 kW, almost half the speed.
With a three-phase connection at home you can still get the full 6.6 kW. Choose a charger that delivers 32 amps on one phase, or a model with adjustable charging power. If you expect to charge a car later that does take more AC power, the 11 kW EV chargers are the better buy. You then accept the lower speed on this Lexus. An 11 kW charger only delivers its full power on a three-phase supply.
Which EV charger suits the Lexus UX 300e?
For the UX 300e we recommend a charger that delivers the full 6.6 kW on one phase. After that, look at the smart features you will actually use.
Load balancing lets the charger lower its power when the house needs it. Your connection then stays within its limit when other appliances draw power at the same time. App control lets you follow a charging session and start it later. With solar surplus charging you use the power from your own panels first. All three are available on chargers at 7.4 kW.
One feature is not. That is a certified kWh meter, better known as a MID meter. A MID meter measures the electricity you charge at home separately from your household use. So you know exactly what charging costs you. In our range that meter starts at 11 kW, so no single-phase 7.4 kW model carries one. Our chargers with a MID meter all start at that power, so weigh the meter against the lower charging speed for this car.
The UX 300e uses a Type 2 connection. At home you charge through the charger's own connection. A separate Type 2 charging cable is only needed at a public charging point.
How long does the Lexus UX 300e take to charge?
A 7.4 kW charger on one phase takes the UX 300e from nearly empty to full in about 7.5 hours. That is 50 kWh divided by 6.6 kW. Plug the car in during the evening and it is ready the next morning. With a three-phase 11 kW charger it takes longer, about 13.5 hours, because of the limit of 3.7 kW. For this car it really pays to look at the power per phase.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Lexus UX 300e charge faster with a 22 kW charger?
No. The UX 300e takes a maximum of 6.6 kW on AC, on one phase. A 22 kW or 11 kW three-phase charger cannot speed that up. Because of the limit per phase you would even end up with 3.7 kW. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger is the fastest choice at home for this car.
Do I need a charger with a certified kWh meter?
That depends on what you want to do with your charging data. A certified kWh meter, or MID meter, records every kWh you charge at home. You then see your charging costs apart from the rest of your electricity bill. If charging the UX 300e as fast as possible at home matters most, a single-phase 7.4 kW charger without that meter fits you better. In our range the certified meter starts at 11 kW, and that power limits this car to 3.7 kW. So the choice comes down to a certified meter or the higher charging speed.
Do I need to have the charger installed?
We strongly recommend having the charger connected by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. The rules differ per country, so check what applies where you live. Wallbox Discounter arranges the installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. A certified partner carries out the work. You can see what that covers on our installation page. Outside those three countries, arrange a qualified installer locally.
