Which EV charger suits the NIO EL7 100 kWh?
The EL7 100 kWh charges at a maximum of 11 kW at home, which is exactly what a three phase charger is built for. A 22 kW charger will not fill this pack any faster, because the car accepts 11 kW at home and no more. With a pack this size, charging at full power pays off more than it would on a smaller EV. Three features are worth weighing up.
The first is a calibrated kWh meter. A charger with a built in MID meter records exactly how much energy went into the car, and that reading is what an employer or leasing company asks for before reimbursing a charging session. Load balancing is the second one, and it matters more here than on most cars. The EL7 draws the full 11 kW for eight hours at a stretch, so it is running while the rest of the house is too. A charger with dynamic load balancing measures the headroom on your connection and eases the charging power up and down to fit, which keeps a long session from tripping a fuse halfway through the night.

How long does the NIO EL7 100 kWh take to charge?
The sum is straightforward: with roughly 90 kWh of usable capacity and a charger delivering 11 kW, a nearly empty pack is full again in about 8 to 9 hours. Plug the EL7 in for the evening and it is ready in the morning, even after a long day of driving. That is somewhat longer than the 75 kWh version, simply because there is more energy to put in. Every hour on the cable adds roughly 50 to 60 kilometres of range, depending on how you drive.

Does the NIO EL7 100 kWh need a three phase connection?
To charge at the full 11 kW at home, yes. On a single phase connection the charging power drops and a full charge takes considerably longer. Whether a three phase supply is available to you, and what upgrading to one involves, depends on where you live, so ask a certified electrician in your area. Having the connection made by a professional is safer in any case and it matters for your insurance. Why does a MID meter matter for the NIO EL7 100 kWh?
A MID certified kWh meter is calibrated, so its reading holds up as proof towards an employer or a leasing company.
