Citroën e-C4 EV charger: which one fits best?
The Citroën e-C4 charges at home at up to 11 kW through a Type 2 connection, provided your car has the optional 11 kW onboard charger. At that speed the 46.3 kWh battery is full again in around 5 hours, comfortably within an overnight charge. Which EV charger fits the Citroën e-C4?
At home the e-C4 tops out at 11 kW, so an 11 kW EV charger uses everything the car has. A more powerful 22 kW unit will not charge it any faster, because the onboard charger sets the ceiling.
A charger with a built-in MID meter is the sensible default here, not an upgrade. A MID-certified kWh meter records your home charging down to the kWh, which is exactly what an employer or a lease company asks for before they reimburse you. In the Netherlands there is more on offer: since 2026 private drivers can claim back up to 500 euro a year on home charging costs through their energy supplier, and business drivers settle their use through ERE registration. Both need a MID-certified meter, and both apply in the Netherlands only. A MID meter is not built into every charger, which is why our EV chargers with a MID meter sit in their own category.
Running a lot of appliances at once, a heat pump for instance, changes what you need from the charger. A unit with dynamic load balancing adjusts the charging power automatically so your main fuse never trips. With app control you shift the five-hour session to the hours when your electricity is cheapest. Not every e-C4 driver needs an app or load balancing. How long does the Citroën e-C4 take to charge?
With an 11 kW EV charger you fill the usable 46.3 kWh battery from empty to full in around 5 hours. If your e-C4 has the standard 7.4 kW onboard charger it takes about 7.5 hours. Either way you plug in during the evening and drive off on a full battery in the morning. On the road the e-C4 fast charges at up to 101 kW through its CCS connector.
Do you need a three-phase connection?
For the full 11 kW you need a three-phase connection at home. With a single-phase connection the e-C4 charges up to 7.4 kW at 32 A on one phase, not the full 11 kW. Whether three phases are available at your home, who you request it from and what it costs differs per country, so check with your local electricity network operator first. We always recommend having the connection made by a certified electrician, because it is safer and it matters for your insurance. Does the Citroën e-C4 charge faster on a 22 kW EV charger?
No. The onboard charger sets the maximum at 11 kW, so a 22 kW unit charges this car at exactly the same speed as an 11 kW one. An 11 kW model is the sensible choice for the e-C4.
Which connector does the Citroën e-C4 use?
The e-C4 uses Type 2 (Mennekes) for charging at home and CCS for fast charging on the road. Nearly every EV charger in our range works with Type 2, so you are covered. For public AC points you need to bring your own type 2 charging cable.
