Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid EV charger: which one fits best?

The Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid, not a full EV. Built between 2014 and 2018, it charges at home with a maximum of 3.7 kW over a single-phase Type 2 connection. That is modest compared with a fully electric car. You do not need a heavy-duty charger to top it up overnight. Our overview of all Porsche EV chargers covers every model we stock, in case you want to compare.

Porsche later reused the "Cayenne S E-Hybrid" name for a completely different, current-generation model. That newer car has a 25.9 kWh battery and charges at up to 11 kW AC. If your Cayenne S E-Hybrid was delivered from late 2023 onwards, it is that newer generation, and it can use a much more powerful charger than described here.

For the 2014-2018 Cayenne S E-Hybrid we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger fits the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid?

Because the Cayenne S E-Hybrid never charges faster than 3.7 kW, any home charger will top it up in around 2 hours 20 minutes. A basic charger is technically enough. Even so, many drivers choose a proper 11 kW charger anyway. It is ready for your next car, which might well be a full EV, so you never need to swap it out. Most 11 kW EV chargers in our range have a built-in MID meter, a certified kWh meter that logs exactly what you charge. That is not a coincidence. From 2026, private users in the Netherlands can earn back up to €500 a year through their energy supplier by registering their home charging with one. Buying a charger without a MID meter now means missing out on that saving.

How long does the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid take to charge?

The math is simple. A usable battery of 8.8 kWh divided by 3.7 kW comes out at roughly 2 hours 20 minutes on a dedicated home charger. On a regular 2.3 kW household socket, expect around 3 hours 50 minutes instead. The difference is small because the plug-in hybrid's battery is compact. Plug in overnight and you always drive off the next morning with a full battery. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid uses a Type 2 connection. You only need a matching Type 2 charging cable if you want to charge at a public charge point away from home.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid need a 3-phase charger?

No. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid charges at a maximum of 3.7 kW over a single phase, so a 3-phase charger will not charge it any faster. An 11 kW, 3-phase charger is only worth it if you want to prepare your fuse box for a future car that can actually use the extra power.

Why does a MID meter matter for my home charger?

A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that accurately records how much power you charge. From 2026, that lets private users in the Netherlands earn back up to €500 a year through their energy supplier, and that scheme applies from 2026 in the Netherlands only. For business drivers, a MID meter is also useful for expensing charging sessions. We always recommend having the connection installed by a certified installer, both for safety and for your insurance. Installation is available in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany, and can be arranged directly through our installation service.

I own the current Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid (2024 or newer). Does this page apply to me?

Not quite. Porsche's current Cayenne S E-Hybrid, sold since late 2023, is a different car under the same name. It has a 25.9 kWh battery and charges at up to 11 kW AC, roughly three times faster than the model on this page.
