Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe EV charger: which one fits best?
The Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe charge single-phase at up to 7.4 kW at home. That keeps the choice simple. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger is exactly enough, and a more powerful three-phase unit will not charge this plug-in hybrid faster. At 7.4 kW the 11.4 kWh battery is full again in about 1.5 hours. Our overview of all Jeep EV chargers covers the fully electric models as well.
For the Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe?
Because both cars charge single-phase up to 7.4 kW, a single-phase 7.4 kW charger is the smartest buy. You do not need an expensive three-phase unit, since the car cannot use the extra power. Check which on-board charger your car has, though. In several markets that 7.4 kW on-board charger is a paid option, and the standard car tops out at 3.7 kW. Your invoice or your Jeep dealer can tell you which one you got.
One thing to know before you order. A MID meter is an officially calibrated kWh meter inside the charger, so you see exactly what home charging costs you. At 7.4 kW single-phase we do not sell one. Every charger we sell with a certified kWh meter is three-phase and starts at 11 kW. You will find them under EV chargers with a MID meter.
Weigh that trade-off before you switch. A three-phase 11 kW unit supplies 3 x 16 A, and a single-phase car takes only one of those phases. Your Jeep would then charge at 3.7 kW instead of 7.4 kW, so it would take about twice as long.
Do you have solar panels? Then a charger that runs on your own surplus is worth a look. It waits until your panels produce more than the house uses and puts the rest into the car. Our EV chargers on solar energy all handle that, including models at 7.4 kW.
The Renegade and Compass 4xe have a Type 2 connection, like most modern EV chargers. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable if you also charge away from home. Our home chargers bring together the models made for a garage or a carport, including the 7.4 kW EV chargers that suit this car.
We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Outside those three countries we ship your charger but we do not install it. We always advise having the connection done by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance, and our installation page explains what is included.
How long do the Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe take to charge?
On a 7.4 kW charger the 11.4 kWh battery goes from empty to full in about 1.5 hours. With the entry version that charges single-phase at 3.7 kW, a full charge takes around 3 hours. In practice you plug in overnight and the car is ready well before morning, even after a busy day. An 11 kW or 22 kW charger does not help here. Worse, on three phases the car uses only one of them and falls back to 3.7 kW.

Frequently asked questions
Do the Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe need a three-phase charger?
No. The Renegade and Compass 4xe charge single-phase up to 7.4 kW. A three-phase charger of 11 or 22 kW does not charge them faster, because the on-board charger caps the power. Worse, on a three-phase unit the car draws only one phase and drops to 3.7 kW. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger is therefore the better choice.
Do I need an EV charger with a MID meter?
A MID meter is officially calibrated, so it shows exactly how much you charged at home, separately from your household use. It is useful, but not at 7.4 kW single-phase. Every MID model in our range is three-phase and starts at 11 kW. For this car you either accept a charger without the meter, or you accept charging at 3.7 kW.
How far do the Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe drive on electricity?
The Renegade and Compass 4xe cover around 45 km on electricity under the WLTP test method. That covers the daily commute. On longer trips the petrol engine takes over.
