The Peugeot e-Expert 75 kWh charges at home through its on-board charger, and that charger sets your pace. As standard it is a 7.4 kW single-phase unit. An 11 kW three-phase on-board charger is available as a factory option. With a usable battery of 68 kWh, a full charge takes about nine hours at 7.4 kW. The e-Expert accepts 7.4 kW at home as standard. A 7.4 kW single-phase charger therefore matches the van exactly. A heavier 22 kW model does not charge it any faster. How long does the Peugeot e-Expert 75 kWh take to charge?

A 7.4 kW charger needs about nine hours for a full battery. That is 68 kWh divided by 7.4 kW. With the optional 11 kW three-phase charger the same charge takes about six hours. Both charging times fit comfortably inside a night. The van leaves full the next morning. A 7.4 kW charger runs on a single-phase connection, while the 11 kW version needs three phases in your fuse box.

The e-Expert charges through a Type 2 connection, the same as most modern EV chargers. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable if you also charge at public points without a fixed cable. At home you charge through the cable on the charger, unless you pick a model with a socket instead of a fixed cable.

A MID meter is a certified kWh meter built into the charger. It measures what the charger delivers, down to the kilowatt-hour. For a van you plug in every evening, that separates the charging cost from the rest of your electricity bill. In our range the meter starts at 11 kW, not at 7.4 kW.

Can I charge the e-Expert faster with a 22 kW charger?

No. The on-board charger accepts 11 kW at most, and only with the three-phase option. A 22 kW model therefore adds nothing for this van. For real speed on the road you use a DC rapid charger of up to about 100 kW.
