Honda Clarity EV charger: overview per version
The Honda Clarity drives around in two versions: the fully electric Clarity Electric and the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid. Both charge through a Type 1 connection, but their charging power differs. As a result, not every charger suits every version equally well. On this page you compare the two versions, so you quickly see which Honda Clarity EV charger fits your car. For the Honda Clarity we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers. Both versions charge on a single phase. A more powerful charger never charges your car faster than it can handle.
Do you already have a three-phase connection at home? Three-phase means your charger spreads power across three circuits at once, which allows a higher charging speed. In that case an 11 kW charger makes you ready for a faster next EV. It does not charge your Clarity any slower today.

Which charger suits the Honda Clarity?
Both versions charge at a modest power at home: the Plug-in Hybrid up to 3.7 kW, the Electric up to 7.4 kW. A charger with higher power does no harm, but never charges faster than the car itself allows. Still, many Clarity drivers deliberately choose an 11 kW charger. With a three-phase meter box you are then prepared for a faster next electric car.
Preferably choose a charger with a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter that records your charging use accurately. This pays off for almost every driver, not just business users. From 2026, private drivers in the Netherlands can earn back up to 500 euros a year on home charging costs. That runs through your energy supplier, and the scheme applies from 2026 in the Netherlands only. The Honda Clarity uses a Type 1 connection. If your charger has a loose cable, you need a matching Type 1 to Type 2 charging cable. With a fixed-cable charger you do not need to worry about this. We always recommend having the connection carried out by a certified installer, which is safer and important for your insurance.
