Mini Electric Cabrio EV charger: which one is the best fit?

The Mini Electric Cabrio charges at home at a maximum of 11 kW through a Type 2 connection. This charging capacity determines which EV charger is the logical choice: this open-top two-seater cannot accept more than 11 kW, so a more powerful charger will not reduce the charging time. For the Mini Electric Cabrio, we recommend choosing a charger from our range of 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger is suitable for the Mini Electric Cabrio?

With 11 kW as the maximum AC charging capacity, an 11 kW EV charger allows you to make full use of the onboard charger. An integrated MID meter is particularly useful when the charged kilowatt-hours must be recorded accurately and verifiably, for example for reimbursement by an employer, leasing company or your own business. In the Netherlands, a compatible EV charger with a MID meter may also be used for ERE registration. ERE certificates are only applicable in the Netherlands.

How long does it take to charge the Mini Electric Cabrio?

Dividing the usable battery capacity of 28.9 kWh by the 11 kW charging power results in a theoretical charging time of approximately 2.5 hours. In practice, normal charging losses may make the session slightly longer. Connect the car in the evening and it will be fully charged well before the following morning. With a range of 201 kilometres, you will usually only replenish part of the battery during everyday use, which means the car will often spend even less time connected to the charger.

Which charging cable does the Mini Electric Cabrio need?

The Cabrio uses a Type 2 connection, just like almost every modern EV charger. When you choose a charger with a fixed cable, you can connect it directly to the car. With a socket model such as the recommended Alfen, you use your own Type 2 charging cable. You also need the same cable to charge the car at public charging stations without a fixed cable.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Mini Electric Cabrio require a three-phase connection?

A three-phase connection of 3 × 16A is required to achieve the full 11 kW charging capacity. With only a single-phase connection, the Cabrio charges more slowly and a complete charging session takes longer. Your grid operator can provide information about upgrading to a three-phase connection.

Why can a MID meter be important for the Mini Electric Cabrio?

A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that accurately and verifiably records charging consumption. This is particularly important when charging costs are reimbursed by an employer, leasing company or your own business. In the Netherlands, a compatible EV charger with a MID meter may also support ERE registration. ERE certificates are only applicable in the Netherlands. For exclusively private charging, a MID meter is not essential, but it provides a transparent record of actual charging consumption.

Does the EV charger need to be connected by an installer?

We always recommend having the charger connected by a qualified installer. This is safer and can be important for your insurance coverage. You can order the installation together with your EV charger from Wallbox Discounter.
