Mini Electric Cabrio EV charger: which one fits best?

The Mini Electric Cabrio charges at home at up to 11 kW through a Type 2 connection. That charging power decides which EV charger makes sense for you: this open-top Mini simply cannot take more than 11 kW, so a faster charger adds nothing. Our overview of all Mini EV chargers shows the advice for every other electric Mini.

For the Mini Electric Cabrio we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Check your vehicle documents or the car's display to confirm the maximum AC charging power of your Cabrio.

The Mini Electric Cabrio, also known as the Mini Electric Convertible, is a rare sight: an open-top electric Mini built as a limited run of 999 cars. Its compact 28.9 kWh net battery makes charging at home easy, because even from nearly empty the car is full again within a few hours.

Which EV charger suits the Mini Electric Cabrio?

With 11 kW as its ceiling, an 11 kW charger gets the most out of the car's onboard charger. Our 11 kW EV chargers come both with a fixed cable and as socket models, so you can choose what suits your driveway.

It is also worth looking at a charger with a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much electricity goes into your car, separately from the rest of your household consumption. That way you know precisely what charging at home costs you. Among our EV chargers with a MID meter you will also find an 11 kW model.

Still comparing? Our range of EV home chargers is a good place to start, and we are happy to help you find the model that fits your fuse box.

How long does the Mini Electric Cabrio take to charge?

Divide the 28.9 kWh net battery by the 11 kW charging power and you get just over 2.5 hours on paper. Add the usual charging losses and a full charge from nearly empty takes about 3 hours. Plug the car in during the evening and it will be ready long before morning. With a range of 201 km you will often only top up part of the battery, so in practice the car spends even less time on the charger.

Which charging cable does the Mini Electric Cabrio need?

The Cabrio has a Type 2 connection, like almost every modern EV charger. With a fixed-cable charger you plug that cable straight into the car. With a socket model you use your own Type 2 charging cable, which is also the cable you need at public charging points on the road.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Mini Electric Cabrio need a 3-phase connection?

To reach the full 11 kW you need a 3-phase connection with 3x16 amps. With only a single-phase connection the Cabrio charges more slowly and a full charge takes longer. Your electricity network operator or an electrician can tell you whether upgrading to 3-phase is possible at your address.

Why is a MID meter important for the Mini Electric Cabrio?

A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records your charging consumption precisely. You see exactly how much electricity your Cabrio uses at home, apart from the rest of your bill. If you charge a company or lease car at home, that same reading gives you a reliable basis for reimbursing the charging costs with your employer.

Does the charger need to be connected by an installer?

We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician: it is safer and it matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany only. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium you can add it to your order, in Germany it starts with a free quotation.
