Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh EV charger: which one fits best?

The Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh is a fully electric van, built from 2021 to 2024. It came in two lengths, M and L, with a 75 kWh battery and around 330 km of WLTP range. How fast it charges at home depends on one thing above all: the on-board charger fitted to your van. That choice decides which wallbox is right for you. Has your Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh got the single-phase 7.4 kW on-board charger? Then we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers. With the three-phase 11 kW on-board charger you need an 11 kW EV charger instead. The wrong match halves your charging speed.

Which EV charger suits the Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh?

This van was sold with two different on-board chargers. The on-board charger sits inside the van and converts the AC power from your wallbox. It sets your maximum home charging speed, whatever the wallbox can deliver. In many markets the single-phase 7.4 kW version is standard, with the three-phase 11 kW charger as an option. In Germany the 11 kW charger is standard. So find out which one your van has before you order. Your vehicle documents show it, and so does the charging display in the car.

Matching the two matters more than buying the biggest wallbox. A charger supplies amps per phase, and your van never takes more per phase than its own charger handles. Put a van with the 7.4 kW on-board charger on an 11 kW wallbox and it drops to 3.7 kW. A full charge then takes roughly 22 hours instead of 11. It works the other way round too. A three-phase 11 kW van on a single-phase 7.4 kW wallbox also drops to 3.7 kW and 22 hours.

Check your home connection as well. A 7.4 kW charger pulls 32 amps over one phase. An 11 kW charger needs a three-phase supply with 16 amps per phase, and not every home has one. Ask an installer to look at your connection and fuse box before you order. Always have your charger connected by a qualified electrician. It is safer, and many insurers require it. We handle EV charger installation in the Netherlands and Dutch-speaking Belgium. In Germany we arrange it through a free quote. We ship our chargers worldwide.

An EV charger with app control earns its keep on a van like this. An 11 hour charge runs all night, so you want to start, stop and follow it from your phone. App control is available on most of our range, including at 7.4 kW.

One honest gap: a MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter, certified under the European Measuring Instruments Directive. It shows you exactly what home charging costs, separate from the rest of your household use. In our range these chargers with a MID meter start at 11 kW. At 7.4 kW we do not have one, so plan around that if a calibrated meter matters to you.

How long does the Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh take to charge?

Work with the 69 kWh usable battery. On an 11 kW EV charger a full charge takes about 7.5 hours, charging losses included. On a 7.4 kW charger it takes about 11 hours. Both fit inside a night, so you plug in after dinner and leave with a full van. Get the match wrong and you drop to 3.7 kW and about 22 hours. On the road, 10 to 80% takes roughly 40 to 45 minutes, depending on the charger and the battery temperature. The CCS fast charger peaks at 100 kW.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh charge faster with an 11 kW EV charger?

Only if your van has the three-phase 11 kW on-board charger. Then it charges at the full 11 kW, in about 7.5 hours. With the single-phase 7.4 kW on-board charger an 11 kW wallbox makes things worse, not better. Your van drops to 3.7 kW and needs roughly 22 hours. So check your vehicle documents or the charging display in the car first, then choose the matching charger.

Can I get a MID meter with the Opel Zafira-e Life?

In our range a MID meter starts at 11 kW, so there is none at 7.4 kW. If your van has the three-phase 11 kW on-board charger, you can get one. A MID meter measures your charging sessions to a certified standard. You see exactly what charging this van costs, apart from your household use. That helps with a battery this size, because one charge uses a lot of energy.
