Which EV charger is suitable for the Renault Zoe R240?
Because the R240 supports AC charging at up to 22 kW, it benefits more from a three-phase EV charger than many other compact electric cars. If your electrical connection can provide at least 3 × 16A for the charger, an 11 kW EV charger is often the most practical choice. It can fully charge the Zoe in approximately 2.5 hours without requiring a heavier 3 × 32A connection. To use the full 22 kW charging capacity, you need a suitable three-phase 3 × 32A installation and may require approval from your grid operator.
Almost every EV charger recommended below has an integrated MID meter. A MID-certified kWh meter accurately and verifiably records charging consumption. This is particularly useful when charging costs are reimbursed by an employer, leasing company or your own business. In the Netherlands, a compatible EV charger with a MID meter may also support ERE registration. ERE certificates are only applicable in the Netherlands.

How long does it take to charge the Renault Zoe R240?
The theoretical charging time is calculated by dividing the usable battery capacity by the charging power. With a usable battery capacity of 23.3 kWh, this results in:
- With a 22 kW EV charger: 23.3 divided by 22 is theoretically slightly more than one hour. Including normal charging losses, a full charge takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- With an 11 kW EV charger: 23.3 divided by 11 is theoretically slightly more than two hours. Including charging losses, a full charge takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The R240 does not support DC fast charging, so you depend on AC charging points during a journey. This is not a major disadvantage at home because of the car’s high AC charging capacity: even at 11 kW, the vehicle can easily be fully charged within an evening. The R240 uses a Type 2 connection. To charge the vehicle at public charging stations or an EV charger with a Type 2 socket, you need a separate Type 2 charging cable.

It is not strictly necessary, but it is worthwhile. The R240 supports AC charging at up to 22 kW, so a three-phase 11 or 22 kW EV charger charges the car noticeably faster than a single-phase charger. On a suitable single-phase connection, the car can charge at up to 7.4 kW, resulting in a considerably longer charging time.
Why can a MID meter be important for the Renault Zoe R240?
A MID-certified kWh meter accurately and verifiably records how much electricity is charged into the vehicle. This is particularly important when charging costs are reimbursed by an employer, leasing company or your own business. In the Netherlands, a compatible EV charger with a MID meter may also support ERE registration. ERE certificates are only applicable in the Netherlands.
