Which EV charger is suitable for the Citroën ë-C3?

The ë-C3 charges at home at 7.4 kW, or at up to 11 kW with the optional onboard charger. An 11 kW EV charger therefore keeps you well prepared: the standard version charges at the maximum power supported by the car, while the optional 11 kW version can use the full charging capacity. When choosing an EV charger, you should also consider whether you need certified consumption measurement. A MID-certified kWh meter accurately and transparently records the electricity used for charging. This is particularly useful when charging costs need to be reimbursed by an employer, charged to a business or administered for a company or lease vehicle. In the Netherlands, a MID meter may also be required for participation in the ERE scheme. The ERE scheme is only available in the Netherlands.

How long does it take to charge the Citroën ë-C3?

Divide the battery capacity by the charging power to calculate the approximate charging time. With the standard 7.4 kW onboard charger, the 44 kWh battery can be fully recharged in approximately six hours. If your ë-C3 has the optional 11 kW onboard charger and you have a 3-phase connection, the charging time is reduced to approximately 4.5 hours. Connect the car in the evening and it will be fully charged the following morning.

Does the Citroën ë-C3 need an EV charger with a MID meter?

A MID meter is located in the EV charger, not in the car. It is not required for charging itself, but a MID-certified kWh meter accurately and transparently records charging consumption. This is particularly useful when you charge a company or lease vehicle at home and the electricity costs need to be reimbursed by your employer or business. In the Netherlands, a MID meter may also be required for ERE registration. The ERE scheme is only available in the Netherlands.

Does the Citroën ë-C3 need a 3-phase connection?

Not necessarily. The standard ë-C3 charges at 7.4 kW on a single phase, so a suitably rated 1-phase connection is sufficient. To make full use of the optional 11 kW onboard charger, you need a 3-phase connection with 3 × 16 amps. A suitable 11 or 22 kW EV charger can be configured to match the maximum charging power supported by the car and your electrical connection.

Which charging connector does the Citroën ë-C3 have?

The ë-C3 uses a Type 2 connection, the European standard for AC charging. It is therefore compatible with virtually every modern EV charger.
