Citroën e-C3 EV charger: which one fits best?
The Citroën e-C3 charges at home at 7.4 kW as standard through a single-phase onboard charger, and is available at extra cost with an 11 kW charger for three-phase connections. For most drivers an 11 kW EV charger is therefore the smarter buy: it fills an empty battery overnight and stays useful if you later drive a car with a faster onboard charger. Which EV charger fits the Citroën e-C3?
At home the e-C3 draws 7.4 kW, or 11 kW with the optional onboard charger. Choose an 11 kW EV charger and you are covered either way: it steps down neatly to 7.4 kW if your e-C3 has the standard onboard charger, and delivers full power the moment you upgrade. A 22 kW unit adds nothing here, because the car sets the ceiling.
Always take a charger with a built-in MID meter. A MID-certified kWh meter measures accurately enough to bill on, so you see what the car alone costs you, separate from the rest of the household, you can check that against your energy bill and you have proof in hand if an employer or a lease company reimburses your home charging. In the Netherlands there is more on offer: since 2026 private drivers can claim back up to 500 euro a year on home charging costs through their energy supplier, and business drivers settle their use through ERE registration. Both need a MID-certified meter, and both apply in the Netherlands only. Our EV chargers with a MID meter have the meter built in, so nothing has to be added afterwards.
Drawing 11 kW across three phases can crowd a busy fuse box when other heavy appliances are running at the same time. EV chargers with dynamic load balancing measure how much current is still free and drop the charging power the moment demand rises elsewhere, so the main fuse never trips.
App control is worth having on a car that charges for four to six hours at a stretch: with an EV charger with an app you set the session to run when your energy tariff is lowest and check from indoors that it is actually charging. If you would rather start from the basics, the home EV chargers are the easiest entry point.
How long does the Citroën e-C3 take to charge?
As a rule of thumb you divide the battery capacity by the charging power and allow a little extra for charging losses. With the standard 7.4 kW onboard charger the 44 kWh battery is full again in around 6 hours. With the optional 11 kW onboard charger and a three-phase connection that drops to roughly 4.5 hours. Plug the e-C3 in during the evening and it is full every morning. On the road the e-C3 fast charges at up to 100 kW through its CCS connector.

Does the Citroën e-C3 need an EV charger with a MID meter?
The MID meter sits in the charger, not in the car. We recommend one for almost everyone: a MID-certified kWh meter logs your consumption accurately, which is what employers and lease companies ask for before they reimburse home charging. Dutch drivers also need it for ERE registration, a scheme that applies in the Netherlands only.
Does the Citroën e-C3 need a three-phase connection?
Not necessarily. The standard e-C3 charges at 7.4 kW on a single phase, so a single-phase connection is enough. To use the optional 11 kW onboard charger you do need a three-phase connection at 3x16 amps. An 11 kW EV charger works on both: it automatically steps back to whatever your car and your fuse box can handle.
Which connector does the Citroën e-C3 use?
The e-C3 uses a Type 2 connector for AC charging, the European standard, so every modern EV charger works with it. For public AC points you need to bring your own type 2 charging cable.
