Renault 5 E-Tech 52 kWh EV charger: which one fits best?
The Renault 5 E-Tech 52 kWh charges at home at up to 11 kW over a three-phase connection. Three-phase means your electricity supply reaches the charger over three live wires instead of one. That 11 kW is the ceiling of the onboard charger, so a faster charger buys you nothing at home. The 52 kWh battery is good for around 400 km. You want a charger that fills it in a single night. Which EV charger fits the Renault 5 E-Tech 52 kWh?
The car tops out at 11 kW on alternating current. An 11 kW charger is therefore the smart choice. It fills the 52 kWh battery overnight. You do not pay for power the car cannot use. A 22 kW charger simply throttles back to 11 kW here.
Look for a built-in MID meter while you compare. An MID meter is a certified kWh meter. It records exactly how much energy went into the car, so you see what a session really cost. An employer or a lease company accepts that figure without discussion.
From 2026 a Dutch scheme also pays private owners back part of their home charging costs. It runs in the Netherlands only, and only with a certified meter. One more feature is worth checking on a car that charges for most of a night. Load balancing means the charger watches how much current your house has left. How long does the Renault 5 E-Tech 52 kWh take to charge?
On an 11 kW charger, expect around 5 hours 45 minutes from empty to full. On paper 52 kWh at 11 kW takes just under five hours. Real charging loses some energy as heat, so allow a little more. Plug in at 23:00 and the car is ready in the morning. On the road a fast charger tops the car up at around 100 kW of direct current. That suits the longer trips the 52 kWh battery makes possible.

Does the Renault 5 E-Tech 52 kWh need a three-phase connection?
For the full 11 kW at home, yes. An 11 kW charger runs on three phases at 16 amps each. Renault also supports single-phase charging at up to 7.4 kW, which needs a 32 amp supply. On a 16 amp single-phase supply you drop to 3.7 kW and a full charge takes far longer. Your grid operator can tell you what your connection allows.
Do I need an EV charger with an MID meter?
You do if you want to know what a charging session cost. A certified kWh meter logs every session to the kilowatt-hour, so the number on your electricity bill stops being a guess. It also gives an employer or a lease company a figure they will reimburse without argument. In the Netherlands the same meter is the condition for the reimbursement scheme that starts in 2026. For most drivers that combination is worth the small extra cost.
