XPeng P7 RWD Long Range EV charger: which one fits best?

The XPeng P7 RWD Long Range charges at home at up to 11 kW through a Type 2 connection. A usable battery of 82.7 kWh is big, so you charge it overnight on a fixed wallbox rather than through a socket. Which charger fits best depends mainly on your fuse box, and on whether you want to record what you charge. The P7 comes in several versions, each with its own charging times on our XPeng EV charger pages.

For the XPeng P7 RWD Long Range we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

A charger that delivers more than 11 kW on paper gains you nothing here. The car sets the limit. A 22 kW charger does no harm, but the P7 RWD Long Range never draws more than 11 kW at home. Three-phase means three live power lines run into your home; a single-phase supply has only one. On a single-phase connection the car takes 7.4 kW at most, on a 32 amp supply. A 16 amp single-phase supply leaves you 3.7 kW.

The P7 uses a Type 2 connection, like almost every modern charger. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable for charging away from home.

Which EV charger suits the XPeng P7 RWD Long Range?

The large battery means a full charge at home takes a whole night. A reliable 11 kW charger with load balancing is the logical choice here. Load balancing means the charger keeps measuring how much power your house uses and adjusts the charging power automatically. Your main fuse then stays intact. Our EV chargers with dynamic load balancing include several 11 kW models, so the feature fits this car.

Also look for a built-in MID meter. That is a certified kWh meter, which records exactly how much electricity goes into your car. You then see what charging at home costs you, separate from the rest of your household use. It is also the basis if you settle those costs with an employer or a leasing company. In our range several 11 kW models have one built in, so it fits the P7 as well.

The power the car actually takes is the right starting point. From there, compare our 11 kW EV chargers or filter straight to the models with a MID meter.

How long does the XPeng P7 RWD Long Range take to charge?

With an 11 kW charger you fill the usable 82.7 kWh battery in about 9 hours, including charging losses. Count on a full night. Plug in at 23:00 and the car is ready in the morning. On a single-phase connection a full charge takes far longer. Count on about 13 hours at 7.4 kW and roughly 26 hours at 3.7 kW. All charging times here include charging losses, so they run higher than battery size divided by charging power. That is why we advise three-phase for this car. A mobile charger through a socket delivers 2.3 to 3.7 kW. That is a backup, not a daily solution.

Frequently asked questions

Does the XPeng P7 RWD Long Range charge faster with a 22 kW charger?

No. The P7 RWD Long Range draws at most 11 kW on AC at home. That is the limit of its on-board charger. A 22 kW charger therefore charges this car exactly as fast as an 11 kW model. A charger that can switch to 22 kW is still handy if you later want a car that does accept it.

Do I need a three-phase connection for the XPeng P7 RWD Long Range?

Yes, for the full 11 kW you do. On a single-phase connection you charge at 7.4 kW at most, and at 3.7 kW on a 16 amp supply. The large 82.7 kWh battery then takes much longer to fill. We recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Shipping is worldwide.

Why does a MID meter matter for the XPeng P7 RWD Long Range?

A MID certified kWh meter records your charging consumption accurately. That gives you a reliable figure for what home charging costs you. It is also required if you want to settle those costs with an employer or a leasing company. Without a MID meter you have no verifiable record of the electricity your car used.
