How long does the Mercedes EQA 250 take to charge?

The EQA 250 has a usable battery of 66.5 kWh. On an 11 kW charger you count on about 6 hours for a full charge from empty to full (66.5 kWh divided by 11 kW). Plug the car in after dinner and it is full the next morning. If you only have a single phase connection at home, the charging power drops to 3.7 kW and a full charge stretches to more than 17 hours, which is the point at which upgrading to three phase becomes worth it.

Does the Mercedes EQA 250 need a MID meter?

A charger with a MID meter is not compulsory, but it is the sensible choice. You need certified readings whenever someone else has to accept your charging figures: an employer, a lease company, a landlord or an owners' association. Without them, every one of those settlements is an estimate. In the Netherlands the certified meter is also the condition for the scheme that lets private drivers earn back up to 500 euros a year from 2026, which applies in the Netherlands only. To reach the full 11 kW at home, yes. On a single phase connection the EQA 250 charges at a maximum of 3.7 kW, which lengthens a full charge considerably. A qualified electrician can assess whether your meter cupboard is suitable.

Can the Mercedes EQA 250 charge faster than 11 kW at home?

Not through an ordinary charger. The onboard charger of the EQA 250 accepts a maximum of 11 kW of alternating current at home, so a 22 kW unit delivers no extra speed. Faster charging is only possible on the road at a fast-charging station, where the EQA 250 takes direct current at up to around 112 kW.

Does the charger have to be connected by an electrician?

In the Netherlands there is no legal requirement to have a charger connected by a qualified electrician, but rules differ from country to country, so check what applies where you live. In Germany, for example, every charger must be registered with the grid operator before it is connected.
