NIO EL6 EV charger: overview per version
The NIO EL6 is an electric SUV that you charge at home at up to 11 kW through a Type 2 connection. Outside Europe the same car is sold as the NIO ES6. The car comes in two versions: a 75 kWh and a 100 kWh battery. That choice mainly sets your range and your charging time. The charging power at home is the same for both. Wallbox Discounter has a separate page with specific advice for each version. Charging data differs per NIO, so pick your model in our NIO EV charger overview and see what it needs.
For the NIO EL6 we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.
Versions of the NIO EL6
| Version | Battery | Max. AC charging power | WLTP range | Charging information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NIO EL6 75 kWh | 75 kWh | 11 kW | 406 km | NIO EL6 75 kWh |
| NIO EL6 100 kWh | 100 kWh | 11 kW | 529 km | NIO EL6 100 kWh |
Not sure which version you drive? Check the battery capacity in the on-board computer or in your vehicle documents. The difference sits in the range and the charging time, not in the maximum charging power at home. Both versions charge through alternating current at up to 11 kW, so the charger choice is the same for both.
Which EV charger fits the NIO EL6?
The NIO EL6 charges at up to 11 kW at home. Three-phase means your home supply has three phases instead of one. Together they deliver more power than a single phase. If your home has a three-phase connection, an 11 kW charger gets the most out of the car. A heavier 22 kW charger adds no speed. The car sets the ceiling, and for the EL6 that ceiling is 11 kW.
At this power you can also choose a charger with a MID meter. A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter built into the charger. It records your charging separately from the rest of your household use. You then see exactly what charging at home costs you. We stock chargers with this meter at both 11 kW and 22 kW. On the version pages you will find concrete advice per version, with charging times and suitable models from our range.
Both versions need the same 11 kW three-phase charger, so one permanently mounted model covers either one. You will find those side by side in our 11 kW EV chargers.
How long does the NIO EL6 take to charge?
You work out the charging time by dividing the battery capacity by the charging power. With an 11 kW charger you fill the 75 kWh version from almost empty to full in about 7 hours. The 100 kWh version has a larger battery and takes roughly 9 hours. Plug in during the evening and the car is fully charged the next morning. On the road you top up faster at a fast-charging station. At home a steady alternating-current charge is smarter and cheaper.

We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany, and nowhere else. In Germany it runs through a free quotation instead of an installation you order along with the charger. We always recommend having the connection in your fuse box done by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. Our installation page sets out what the work covers. You always get independent advice, because we look at the best solution for your car and your fuse box.
Frequently asked questions about the NIO EL6
How many kW does the NIO EL6 charge at home?
The NIO EL6 charges at home through alternating current at up to 11 kW, in both versions. With a three-phase supply at home, an 11 kW charger is the logical choice. A heavier charger will not charge the car faster. The car itself sets the ceiling of 11 kW.
Does a charger for the NIO EL6 need a MID meter?
It is not required, but it is worth having. The meter sits inside the charger, so it records your charging separately from the rest of your household use. The calibration makes that reading legally valid. You therefore know exactly what charging at home costs you. That is why we recommend a MID meter on an 11 kW charger for the EL6.
