Ford Fusion Energi EV charger: which one suits you best?
The Ford Fusion Energi is a plug-in hybrid with a compact 7.6 kWh battery. It charges on a single phase at a maximum of 3.3 kW. This makes choosing an EV charger simpler than for many fully electric cars. At home, the vehicle will never charge faster than 3.3 kW, even when connected to a more powerful charger. Ford offers several plug-in hybrid and electric models with different charging requirements. Compare them in our overview of all Ford EV chargers.
For the Ford Fusion Energi, we recommend a charger from our range of 11 kW EV chargers.

Why a more powerful EV charger does not charge faster
The Ford Fusion Energi accepts a maximum of 3.3 kW through its onboard charger. An 11 kW or 22 kW EV charger therefore will not charge the car any faster than a lower-powered charger. The maximum charging speed is limited by the vehicle itself.
An 11 kW EV charger can still be a sensible choice if you expect to switch to a fully electric car in the future. Many modern EVs charge at 11 kW on three phases, so an 11 kW installation can also be used with your next vehicle. If you only have a single-phase connection and do not plan to upgrade, a lower-powered charger may be sufficient.
Which EV charger suits the Ford Fusion Energi?
Because the car itself charges at a maximum of 3.3 kW, you do not need a high-powered EV charger for charging speed alone. An 11 kW three-phase charger can nevertheless be a practical and future-proof choice, especially if you expect to drive a fully electric vehicle later.
A built-in MID meter can also be useful. This is a certified kWh meter that accurately records how much electricity is used for charging. It keeps the vehicle's charging consumption separate from the rest of your household electricity use. You can compare suitable models in our range of EV chargers with a MID meter.

How long does the Ford Fusion Energi take to charge?
A full charge takes approximately 2.5 hours with a suitable EV charger. Dividing 7.6 kWh by 3.3 kW gives just over two hours, with charging losses accounting for the remaining time. From a regular wall socket at around 2.3 kW, a full charge takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.
The Ford Fusion Energi has a Type 1 connection, also known as a Yazaki connector. To charge from a home charger with a Type 2 socket or at a public Type 2 charge point, you need a suitable Type 1 to Type 2 charging cable. The vehicle's maximum charging power remains limited to 3.3 kW.

Frequently asked questions about the Ford Fusion Energi EV charger
Do I need a three-phase connection for the Ford Fusion Energi?
No. The Ford Fusion Energi charges on a single phase at a maximum of 3.3 kW. A three-phase connection only becomes useful if you install an 11 kW EV charger and want to use its full capacity with a future electric vehicle.
Do I need an EV charger with a MID meter?
A MID meter is useful if you want to measure your vehicle's charging consumption accurately and separately from the rest of your household electricity use. The certified kWh meter shows exactly how many kilowatt-hours are delivered through the charging point.
Should I have the EV charger installed professionally?
We recommend having the EV charger installed by a qualified electrician. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium, installation can be added to your order. In Germany, installation is arranged through a free quotation.
