Twenty meters is the longest cable length for reliable AC charging. You choose this length when a standard cable is simply too short: large business premises, homes with a long driveway, or parking spaces far away from the charging point. At Wallboxdiscounter, you can order a 20 meter type 2 charging cable from just €119, with the sharpest price in the Netherlands.

Who is a 20 meter charging cable intended for?

Most EV drivers manage perfectly well with 5 to 10 meters. A 20 meter cable is specifically for situations where the distance between the EV charger and the car is genuinely greater than usual:

  • Business premises where the business EV charger is located near the meter cupboard and the parking spaces are further away
  • Homes with a very long driveway or a parking space at the back of the property
  • HOA complexes where the charging point and parking bay are not next to each other
  • Temporary charging solutions at events or construction sites

Affordable 20 meter cables: only 3-phase from Loady

The 20 meter range is limited for a practical reason: long cables only make sense with sufficient power. Loady supplies two versions of 3-phase charging cables from type 2 to type 2:

VersionPowerConnectionPrice
Loady type 2 to type 211 kW3-phase, 16A€119
Loady type 2 to type 222 kW3-phase, 32A€129

Both cables are type 2 to type 2 and 3-phase. If you have a 1-phase connection, the maximum length available at Wallboxdiscounter is a 15 meter cable of 7.4 kW.

What should you know before choosing 20 meters?

Two things to check in advance. First, the weight: a 3-phase 20 meter cable of 22 kW weighs eight to ten kilos. Fine if the cable stays in a fixed place, but quite heavy if you want to keep it in the car. Second: at 20 meters, there is minimal voltage loss. With modern cables like those from Loady, you will not notice this in practice, because they are designed with sufficient cable cross-section.

Not sure whether you really need 20 meters? Measure the distance from your EV charger to your car’s charging port and add two meters for comfort. If that is less than 15 meters, choose a 15 meter cable. It is lighter and easier to handle. For other variants, see the overview of type 2 charging cables.

Frequently asked questions about 20 meter charging cables

Why are there no 1-phase 20 meter cables?

With 1-phase charging, the maximum power is 7.4 kW. Over a length of 20 meters, the cable would become unnecessarily heavy and expensive compared to the power it delivers. Manufacturers therefore mainly produce 3-phase 20 meter cables.

Can I mount a 20 meter cable permanently on the wall?

You can if you order a cable with an open end. Always have it connected by a certified installer; this is also required for the warranty on your EV charger.

What is the best way to store a 20 meter cable?

Use a cable hook or cable holder on the wall. Roll up the cable loosely (no tight loops) and prevent the plugs from lying on the ground.
