Safety when charging via a socket
Charging via a standard socket puts a significant load on the circuit. A standard 16 A circuit can usually handle 10 A charging, but only if the socket is in good condition and there is little else connected to the circuit. If in doubt, have your fuse box checked by an installer.

At 2.3 kW, you charge around 10 to 15 kilometres of driving range per hour. A full 60 kWh EV battery takes around 24 to 30 hours. For a plug-in hybrid, it is usually done within 4 to 6 hours.
Is charging via a socket safe?
With a certified cable with temperature sensor and a socket in good condition, it is possible, but it puts a long-term load on the wiring. If in doubt, have your fuse box checked and do not charge via a cable reel or extension lead.
Which length should you choose?
For charging at an outdoor socket, 5 metres is usually enough. If your car is further away, choose 8 metres. Longer is rarely necessary at 2.3 kW. If you use a fixed EV charger with socket, a 5 metre Type 2 charging cable is usually sufficient for a short driveway or parking space close to the EV charger.
