Aiways EV charger: which model suits your car?
Which Aiways EV charger fits depends on the charging power of your car, and that varies per model year. Most Aiways versions charge at home at up to 11 kW. The U5 built between 2020 and 2022 charges at 6.6 kW. The U5 and the U6 use a type 2 charging port, the European standard. The right charging power for an Aiways
The U6 and the U5 from 2022 charge at a maximum of 11 kW on alternating current. An 11 kW charger uses that full power. A 22 kW charger will not make those versions charge any faster, because the car limits what it draws. For 11 kW you do need a three-phase connection at home. That means the power comes into your house on three phases instead of one.
For the Aiways U6 and the U5 from 2022 we recommend a charger from our 11 kW range.
The U5 built between 2020 and 2022 is the exception. That version charges on one phase at 6.6 kW. On a three-phase 11 kW charger it falls back to 3.7 kW, so it actually charges slower there. For that U5 a 7.4 kW charger is the better match, because it keeps the full 6.6 kW.
Three features are worth a look on a three-phase connection. Dynamic load balancing lowers the charging power when the rest of the house needs electricity, so your main fuse holds. With app control you start, stop and follow a charging session on your phone. With solar panels on the roof, a solar charger puts your surplus power into the car.
A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that shows exactly how much electricity went into your car at home. At 11 kW the choice with a built-in meter is limited. Nearly all chargers with a MID meter run at 22 kW. Such a charger will not add charging speed for an Aiways, but it is the range to look at if you want a certified meter.
All of these chargers sit in our home charger range, which is the easiest place to start comparing. We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Elsewhere, have a qualified electrician connect the charger. That is safer and it matters for your insurance.
