Aiways U5 EV charger: overview per version
The Aiways U5 is a spacious electric SUV with a 63 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 410 kilometres. How quickly you charge it at home depends mainly on which version you drive. Which EV charger suits the Aiways U5?
The first Aiways U5 has a single-phase 6.6 kW on-board charger, so it draws power from one phase of your connection. For its full 6.6 kW you need a single-phase wallbox up to 7.4 kW. Our 7.4 kW EV chargers deliver exactly that. On a three-phase 11 kW wallbox this version charges at only 3.7 kW, because it uses just one of the three phases.
Do you drive the later U5 2.0 22 with the 11 kW three-phase charger? Then you need a three-phase 11 kW charger for full speed. Either way, a fixed home charger is the smartest choice. Your car charges calmly overnight and you never have to drag a cable to a socket.
A model with a built-in MID meter is worth considering. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter. It lets you measure exactly what home charging costs, separate from the rest of your household use. The choice of models with a MID meter is still limited and mostly starts at 11 kW, so look for it specifically or check the dedicated chargers with a MID meter.
The Aiways U5 charges at home through a Type 2 connection. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable if you want to charge the car elsewhere at a charger with a socket. At home you charge through the fixed cable or socket of your charger.

How long does the Aiways U5 take to charge?
The sum is simple: you divide the battery by the charging power. The first U5 with the 6.6 kW on-board charger takes about 10.5 hours for a full charge, including charging losses. Plug it in during the evening and it is ready in the morning. Do you drive the later U5 with the 11 kW charger and have a three-phase connection? Then the battery is full again in around 6.5 hours. On the road, rapid charging runs through the CCS connection at up to 92 kW. That takes you from 10 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.
