CUPRA Formentor EV charger: which one fits best?
The CUPRA Formentor is a plug-in hybrid that charges at home at up to 3.7 kW over a single-phase connection. That is a modest speed, and it saves you money. You do not need a heavy 11 kW or 22 kW charger to fill this car. A simple charger is enough, because the Formentor never draws more than 3.7 kW, however powerful the charger is. For the CUPRA Formentor we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers. A single-phase 7.4 kW model matches the car and costs less than a three-phase charger.

Which charger fits the CUPRA Formentor?
Because the Formentor only accepts 3.7 kW, your choice is not about speed but about what else you want from the charger. A charger with a built-in MID meter is worth a look. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much you charge at home. From 2026, and only in the Netherlands, private drivers can earn back around 10 cents per kWh they charge at home. That works only with a certified meter.
One thing to know: a MID meter is not yet available on our 7.4 kW chargers, that option starts at 11 kW. If a MID meter matters to you, look at our charging stations with a MID meter and consider an 11 kW EV charger. The Formentor will not charge any faster on it, though. For everyday home use without a MID meter, our 7.4 kW range is the natural fit.
How long does the CUPRA Formentor charge?
The maths is simple. The usable 10.4 kWh battery divided by 3.7 kW comes to about 2 hours 45 minutes for a full charge. Plug it in during the evening and it is ready the next morning. Via a normal socket (2.3 kW) it takes a little longer, around 4.5 hours, which still fits within a night. The Formentor has a Type 2 connection. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable if you want to charge at a public point. At home you charge via the charger's fixed connection.

Does the CUPRA Formentor need a three-phase charger?
No. The Formentor charges at up to 3.7 kW on a single phase. A three-phase 11 kW charger does not charge this car faster, because the car sets the limit. Do you already have a three-phase connection and expect a fully electric car later? Then an 11 kW charger is a smart investment for the future.
Why does a MID meter matter for the CUPRA Formentor?
A certified MID meter records exactly how much you charge at home. That is the condition for the Dutch earn-back scheme from 2026, and it is required for business mileage claims. We always recommend having the charger connected by a qualified electrician, so everything is safe and up to standard.
