Opel Mokka-e 54 kWh EV charger: which one fits best?

The Opel Mokka-e 54 kWh came with one of two onboard chargers. As standard it charges single-phase at 7.4 kW, and Opel offered a three-phase 11 kW charger as an extra. That choice decides which charger suits your car, so check your order documents first.

Which EV charger suits the Opel Mokka-e 54 kWh?

Start with the phases, not with the power rating. A three-phase onboard charger draws 3.7 kW from each of three phases and reaches 11 kW. A single-phase charger pulls everything through one phase and stops at 7.4 kW.

So an 11 kW charger only pays off if your Mokka-e has the three-phase charger. It still works on the single-phase car, it simply charges at 7.4 kW. You only pay extra if your next car can use the difference. A 22 kW charger adds nothing in either case.

Your home supply counts too. The full 11 kW only arrives if your fuse box has three phases as well. On a single-phase supply the car charges at 7.4 kW, whichever onboard charger it has.

One note for drivers in Germany. A single-phase connection there may not draw more than 4.6 kVA without extra equipment, which is roughly 4.6 kW. A single-phase Mokka-e therefore charges more slowly in Germany, so the three-phase charger is worth more there than the extra speed alone suggests.

Why a MID meter is worth it

Watch for a built-in MID meter when you compare models. That is a certified kWh meter, and it records exactly how much energy you charge at home. You see what charging costs you per kWh, separately from the rest of your electricity bill. The same reading lets you invoice an employer or leasing company.

In the Netherlands it is worth more still. From 2026, drivers there claim back up to €500 a year through their energy supplier. That scheme runs in the Netherlands only. You can filter straight to our chargers with a MID meter.

Features that matter on this car

Chargers with dynamic load balancing watch your fuse box and lower the power when other appliances kick in. Load balancing simply means the charger backs off instead of tripping your main fuse. Chargers with an app let you move charging to the cheapest hours.

How long does it take to charge the Opel Mokka-e 54 kWh?

Charging time follows your onboard charger and your connection. Take the usable 50.8 kWh and divide it by the power you actually get:

  • On a 7.4 kW single-phase charger: roughly 6.9 hours on paper, around 8 hours with charging losses. This is also what you get on a single-phase home supply.
  • On an 11 kW three-phase charger: roughly 4.6 hours on paper, around 5.5 hours with charging losses.
  • On an ordinary socket at 2.3 kW: more than a day, which only works as an emergency option.

Charging never runs at full efficiency, which is why the practical figure sits above the calculation. On the road the Mokka-e takes up to 100 kW at a DC fast charger. That brings it from 10 to 80 percent in around half an hour.

Does the Opel Mokka-e 54 kWh need a three-phase connection?

Only if it has the three-phase onboard charger. That charger reaches 11 kW across three phases and 7.4 kW across one. With the standard single-phase charger your maximum is 7.4 kW, and a three-phase connection changes nothing.

How do I know which onboard charger my Mokka-e has?

Opel sold the 54 kWh Mokka-e with a single-phase 7.4 kW charger as standard. The three-phase 11 kW charger was a paid option. Your order documents or the vehicle handbook name the charger fitted to your car.

Does the 54 kWh charge faster than the earlier Opel Mokka-e?

Not as standard. Both versions use the same single-phase 7.4 kW onboard charger. A full charge even takes a little longer, because the battery is larger. In return you go further on one charge, up to 406 km. Only the optional three-phase charger makes it faster at home.

Do I need a charger with a MID meter?

For most drivers it pays off. A MID meter records your home charging in a legally recognised way. You see your real cost per kWh, and you can invoice an employer if you drive for work. A charger without one is cheaper now, but you cannot prove your home charging later.

Should an electrician connect the charger?
