Volvo XC60 T8 Polestar EV charger: which one fits best?
The Volvo XC60 T8 Polestar is a plug-in hybrid with a modest battery and a 3.7 kW onboard charger. That changes your choice a lot. At home the car never charges faster than 3.7 kW. Technically a simple single-phase charger is enough. Many drivers still pick something bigger, and for good reason. Other Volvo models charge at very different speeds, which you can compare in our overview of all Volvo EV chargers.
For the Volvo XC60 T8 we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.
An 11 kW charger needs a three-phase supply. Is your home single-phase? Then a 7.4 kW charger is the practical choice and charges this car at exactly the same speed.
Charging specifications of the Volvo XC60 T8 Polestar
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Battery capacity | 11.6 kWh |
| Max. AC charging power (at home) | 3.7 kW (single-phase) |
| Charging time with a charger | approx. 3 hours, calculated, excluding charging losses |
| Charging plug | Type 2 (Mennekes) |
| DC rapid charging | not available |
These figures apply to the T8 Polestar with the 11.6 kWh battery. Volvo later fitted a larger battery to the XC60 T8, which takes longer to charge at the same 3.7 kW.
Choosing an EV charger for the Volvo XC60 T8
The XC60 T8 accepts 3.7 kW at most, so even a heavy 22 kW charger will not speed it up. We still point most drivers with three phases to an 11 kW charger. The reason is your next car. A fully electric Volvo charges at around 11 kW, three times what this plug-in hybrid takes.
A MID meter is worth a look while you are choosing. It is a calibrated kWh meter. It records exactly how much you charge, so you know what home charging really costs you. Settling with an employer or lease company gets easier too. At 11 kW only one model combines that meter with three-phase charging, so use the MID filter on the chargers with a MID meter.
Two features matter more on a plug-in hybrid than the raw power. Dynamic load balancing means the charger reads how much capacity your fuse box has left. It then lowers the charging power itself, so a session does not trip a breaker. An app lets you set a start time and follow the session. Load balancing sits in our EV chargers with dynamic load balancing. App control sits in the EV chargers with an app.
Staying on a single-phase connection? A 7.4 kW EV charger charges the XC60 T8 just as fast. One thing to know: at 7.4 kW our range has no chargers with a MID meter, those start at 11 kW. Both power levels have their own category, and the wider range of EV chargers for home use is a low-threshold place to start.
Charging time of the Volvo XC60 T8
With 11.6 kWh of battery and 3.7 kW of charging power you land on roughly 3 hours from empty. The sum is simple: 11.6 kWh divided by 3.7 kW comes out just over three hours. Charging losses add a little to that in practice. A heavier charge point changes nothing, because the car sets the limit. Plug in during the evening and the battery is full well before your next trip.
In Europe the XC60 T8 uses a Type 2 socket, the standard AC connector on European cars, like most modern chargers. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable when you charge away from home.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Volvo XC60 T8 need a three-phase connection?
No. The XC60 T8 charges single-phase at up to 3.7 kW, and your existing fuse box almost always covers that. Three phases matter for the charger, not for this car. They let you install an 11 kW model that is ready for a fully electric car later.
Why choose a charger with a MID meter for a plug-in hybrid?
A MID meter measures your charging sessions to a certified standard. A plug-in hybrid charges often and in small portions, so an estimate quickly drifts from reality. With a calibrated reading you know exactly what you used. You can see what a charge costs at your energy rate, and you can pass the figure to an employer or lease company.
Should I have the charger installed?
We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician, for safety and for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges the installation in the Netherlands and Flanders in Belgium, and works with a free quotation for Germany. We ship worldwide, but we install only in those three countries. Elsewhere you order the charger from us and arrange the installation locally.
