Zaptec: a Norwegian brand focused on smart charging
Zaptec was founded in Norway in 2012 and has grown into one of Europe’s most highly regarded charging station brands. The company has offices in eight countries and focuses on compact, modular charging stations for home, business and public charging. What makes Zaptec unique is the combination of smart energy management and hardware that is already prepared for bidirectional charging. Few manufacturers already offer a V2G-ready model.
All Zaptec charging stations work with the Zaptec app, where you can schedule charging sessions, view your consumption and manage your charging station remotely. Zaptec Go
The Zaptec Go is the entry-level model from 2022 and remains extremely popular thanks to its compact size, only 1.3 kg, and sharp starting price. The Go has a Type 2 socket, charging power up to 22 kW and works with 4G or Wi-Fi. RFID locking is managed with the Zaptec RFID Key. Dynamic load balancing is possible via the Zaptec Sense P1 or Tibber Pulse, allowing your charging station to automatically adjust its power based on household consumption.
Zaptec Go 2, latest model
The Zaptec Go 2 is the latest generation and builds on the compact design of the Go. The difference lies in two important upgrades: a MID-certified kWh meter for accurate measurement, up to 1%, and V2G-ready hardware for bidirectional charging according to the ISO 15118-20 standard. This prepares you for vehicle-to-grid charging, where your car may in the future be able to feed electricity back to your home or the grid. ISO 15118 is the communication standard between car and charging station that also enables Plug & Charge: plug in the cable and the charging session starts automatically, without a card or app. The Go 2 is suitable for both single-phase and three-phase connections.
Zaptec Pro
The Zaptec Pro is the oldest model in the Zaptec range, but it is still the favourite for business installations. It has an integrated MID meter and is equipped with multi-charge point load balancing. This allows you to connect an unlimited number of Zaptec Pro charging stations in one cluster, with the available power intelligently distributed across all charging points. Ideal for charging sites, apartment associations and company car parks.
Who is a Zaptec charging station suitable for?
A Zaptec charging station suits several situations. Private users often choose the Zaptec Go because of its sharp price and compact size, or the Zaptec Go 2 if they want future-proof features such as V2G and MID. Do you want business reimbursement or apply through an ERE certificate in the Netherlands? Then you need a MID-certified meter, which is built into the Zaptec Go 2 and Zaptec Pro as standard. Please note: ERE registration and ERE certificates only apply in the Netherlands. For charging sites or company car parks with multiple charging points, the Zaptec Pro is the logical choice thanks to its expandable cluster load balancing.
Zaptec charging stations suitable for ERE certificates in the Netherlands
Do you want to apply for an ERE certificate for the electricity you charge in the Netherlands? You can do this with the Zaptec Go 2 or Zaptec Pro, because both models have a MID-certified kWh meter on board. A MID meter measures your charged kWh with an accuracy of up to 1%, which is required for ERE registration in the Netherlands and for business reimbursement. Dynamic charging with Zaptec Sense P1
The Zaptec Sense P1 is a separate module that connects directly to the P1 port of your smart meter. The module continuously communicates with your charging station and automatically adjusts the charging power to your current consumption. Are the washing machine, dishwasher and oven running at the same time? Then your car temporarily charges a little more slowly, so the circuit does not trip. Is consumption low at home? Installation of a Zaptec charging station
The installation of a Zaptec charging station should always be carried out by a certified installer. The charging station must be mounted at least 0.9 metres above the ground and requires a circuit breaker plus a type A residual-current device (30 mA). The Zaptec Go, Go 2 and Pro have three cable entries, at the bottom, top and rear, allowing the cabling to be neatly routed in almost any situation. After connection, you configure the charging station via the Zaptec app: enable Bluetooth, scan the QR code, bring the charging point online and check the firmware. Do Zaptec charging stations have load balancing?
Yes. The Zaptec Go, Go 2 and Pro all have Manual Load Balancing, which allows you to set the charging power manually via the app. For Dynamic Load Balancing, add the Zaptec Sense P1 or a Tibber Pulse, so the charging station automatically follows household consumption.
Is the Zaptec Go 2 suitable for V2G?
The hardware of the Zaptec Go 2 is V2G-ready and prepared for the ISO 15118-20 standard for bidirectional charging. Your car must also be V2G-compatible to feed electricity back. At the moment, this is still a future feature, but your charging station is already prepared for it.
Which Zaptec charging station is suitable for ERE certificates?
The Zaptec Go 2 and the Zaptec Pro are suitable for ERE certificates in the Netherlands, because both have a MID-certified kWh meter on board. Please note: ERE registration only applies in the Netherlands. The standard Zaptec Go does not have a MID meter and therefore cannot be used for ERE registration.
