Ten metres is the most popular length for a charging cable, and for good reason. It covers almost every home situation without unnecessary dragging caused by excessive cable weight. At Wallboxdiscounter, you can buy a 10 metre charging cable from just €119, from brands such as Loady, Ratio Electric and myenergi. Fifteen different models in 1-phase and 3-phase, from 3.7 to 22 kW.

Why 10 metres is the best all-rounder

The average distance from a home EV charger on the wall to the charging port of a car on the driveway is four to six metres. With a 10 metre cable, you therefore have enough flexibility to park your car differently or use a shared driveway. At the same time, the weight remains manageable: a 10 metre type 2 cable of 22 kW weighs around five kilos, making it easy to handle.

Available power ratings in 10 metre versions:

  • 3.7 kW (1-phase, 16A) for plug-in hybrids
  • 7.4 kW (1-phase, 32A) for daily home charging on 1-phase
  • 11 kW (3-phase, 16A) for faster charging on 3-phase
  • 22 kW (3-phase, 32A) for maximum home charging power

The sharpest price: Loady from €119

The most affordable 10 metre cable in the range is the Loady type 2 with open end or type 2 to type 2, both from €119 for 7.4 kW and 11 kW versions. A Loady 22 kW 10 metre cable costs €149. If you want a sturdier cable, take a look at the Ratio Basic Line (from €169 for 11 kW) or the E-line series with a thicker sheath.

Which 10 metre charging cable fits your car?

The right choice depends on two things: your home connection and the maximum charging capacity of your car. If you have a 1-phase connection, you can charge at a maximum of 7.4 kW. With a 3-phase connection, you can choose 11 or 22 kW. Do pay attention to your car’s specifications, because many EVs accept a maximum of 11 kW AC. A 22 kW cable works perfectly on such a car, but will not charge faster than the onboard charger allows.

For an EV charger with socket, choose a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. For fixed installation in an EV charger (for example mounted on the wall yourself), choose a cable with open end.

Frequently asked questions about 10 metre charging cables

Does a 10 metre cable work on any EV charger?

Almost always. As long as your EV charger has a Type 2 socket (the European standard), a 10 metre Type 2 cable fits without any problem. Check in advance whether your EV charger has a separate socket or a fixed cable; with a fixed cable, you do not need a separate charging cable.

Does a 10 metre cable charge more slowly than a shorter cable?

No, with cable lengths up to 15 metres, voltage loss is negligible. A 10 metre 22 kW cable charges just as fast as a 5 metre 22 kW cable.

How much does a 10 metre charging cable weigh?

That depends on the power rating. A 7.4 kW cable weighs around 3 kilos, while a 22 kW 3-phase cable weighs around 5 kilos. Perfectly manageable for daily use.
