An empty 39.2 kWh battery fills in about 6 to 6.5 hours on a 7.4 kW charger. You rarely arrive home completely empty, so one night is comfortably enough. The version with the optional 11 kW three-phase charger is faster. With three phases at home the time drops to roughly 4 to 4.5 hours. No. The standard version charges single-phase up to 7.4 kW, so a single-phase connection with a 7.4 kW charger is enough. Three phases only help if your Kona has the optional three-phase on-board charger. Without it the car drops to about 3.7 kW on an 11 kW charger, so it charges slower.

Do you need an EV charger with a MID meter?

Not for the charging itself. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that shows your charging separately from your household use. In our 7.4 kW range you will not find one. On this car it is a choice between that reading and full charging speed.

Does the Kona Electric 39 kWh charge faster on a 22 kW charger?

No. The car sets the maximum charging speed, not the charger. On a 22 kW unit the standard Kona still takes 7.4 kW single-phase. With the optional three-phase charger it takes 11 kW. You would pay more without charging any faster.
