The Renault Zoe R110 is one of the few compact EVs that can charge at up to 22 kW AC at home. This is made possible by its three-phase Chameleon charger. However, the most powerful EV charger is not automatically the best choice. Whether an 11 kW or 22 kW charger suits you best mainly depends on your home's electrical supply and your charging needs. 22 kW or 11 kW: what does your home supply allow?
The Renault Zoe R110 only reaches its full 22 kW charging power on a suitable three-phase supply with 32 A per phase. Not every home electrical connection can provide this. You can still install a charger on a lower-capacity supply, but the car will then charge at a lower power.
Dynamic load balancing can help prevent the EV charger from overloading your electrical connection. It measures how much power the rest of your home is using and automatically adjusts the charging power based on the capacity still available.
For many Zoe drivers, an 11 kW EV charger is therefore the practical choice. It fully charges the R110 in around four and a half hours, which is more than sufficient for overnight charging. If you already have a suitable electrical supply and want to use the car's maximum AC charging capacity, a 22 kW EV charger can be worthwhile.
Which EV charger suits the Renault Zoe R110?
The Renault Zoe R110 uses a Type 2 connection and supports up to 22 kW AC charging. When comparing EV chargers, also look at the built-in energy meter. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that accurately records how much electricity is delivered through the charging point. This keeps the vehicle's charging consumption separate from the rest of your household electricity use.

If your electrical supply supports it, you can also compare all 22 kW EV chargers in our range. The Zoe R110 uses a Type 2 connection. A separate Type 2 charging cable is required with a socketed home charger or at public Type 2 charge points without a fixed cable.
How long does the Renault Zoe R110 take to charge?
With an 11 kW EV charger, a full charge takes approximately four and a half hours. With a 22 kW charger, where the R110 can use its full AC charging power, the same charge takes around two hours and fifteen minutes. Both figures include charging losses and are therefore slightly higher than the simple calculation of battery capacity divided by charging power.
Both options are more than fast enough for overnight charging. The difference mainly matters if you regularly want to add a large amount of range during a shorter stop at home.
