Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge EV charger: which one fits best?
The Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge Pure Electric with single motor charge at home through a Type 2 connection. This version has rear-wheel drive and is more efficient than the Twin. So you travel further on a full battery. With a three-phase 11 kW charger you fill the battery overnight. Three-phase means the charger uses all three power phases of your home connection. For the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge single motor?
A three-phase 11 kW charger gets the most out of this Volvo. Almost every charger we recommend has a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a certified energy meter that records exactly how much you charge. That matters for one reason. From 2026 in the Netherlands only, private drivers can earn back up to 500 euro per year on home charging. They claim it back through their energy supplier, but only with a certified kWh meter. Buy a charger without a MID meter now and you miss that saving. See our chargers with a MID meter.
Both models charge through a Type 2 connection, like most modern chargers. Prefer a simple setup at home? Browse our home EV chargers or all 11 kW EV chargers in our range.
Installation is handled by a certified partner, not by our own staff. We install in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany, while shipping is worldwide. We always advise a certified electrician for the connection, which is safer and important for your insurance.
How long does the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge single motor take to charge?
The bare sum is simple. The 66 kWh usable battery divided by 11 kW is about 6 hours. Including charging losses the realistic time is around 7 hours from empty to full. Plug in at 23:00 and the car is ready in the morning. The later 82 kWh version takes longer, closer to 8.5 hours. No three-phase connection yet? Then the car charges single-phase at 3.7 to 7.4 kW and a full charge takes longer.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Volvo XC40 and C40 single motor charge faster than the Twin?
Not at home. Both versions charge at up to 11 kW AC, so the charging time is similar. The difference is the range. The single motor is more efficient and drives further on a full battery than the Twin with all-wheel drive.
Does the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge need a three-phase connection?
For the full 11 kW charging power, yes. An 11 kW charger runs on a three-phase connection with 3x16 amp. With single-phase the car charges at 3.7 to 7.4 kW and a full charge takes longer.
Why is a MID meter important for this Volvo?
A MID-certified kWh meter records your charging use precisely. From 2026 in the Netherlands only, that lets private drivers earn back up to 500 euro per year through their energy supplier. Almost every charger we recommend includes one as standard.
