BMW X3 xDrive30e EV charger: which one fits best?
The BMW X3 xDrive30e is a plug-in hybrid that charges at home at up to 3.7 kW. It uses a Type 2 connector, the European standard. A heavier 11 or 22 kW charger will not charge this car any faster. The car's own onboard charger sets the limit, so speed is not what decides your choice here. BMW builds more plug-in hybrids and EVs, each with its own charging speed. You will find them all on our BMW EV charger overview.
For the BMW X3 xDrive30e we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger fits the BMW X3 xDrive30e?
Because this X3 never draws more than 3.7 kW, every charger gives you the same speed. An 11 kW charger delivers three phases of 16 amps. Your car takes one of them and reaches its full 3.7 kW. You lose nothing and you gain headroom. Drive a fully electric car later and you are already set, because most EVs charge at 11 kW across three phases.
That headroom is the main argument, but it is not the only one. Two features are worth weighing at this power level, and both exist in our 11 kW range.
The first is a built-in MID meter, a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much electricity your car takes. That keeps your charging separate from the rest of your household use, so you always know what charging at home actually costs. You will find these models together in our EV chargers with a MID meter, where the calibrated models start at 11 kW.
The second is dynamic load balancing. The charger measures how much power your home has left. It turns its own draw down when the oven or the washing machine kicks in. That matters in an older fuse box with a light main fuse. Our EV chargers with dynamic load balancing handle that for you.
App control is the third thing worth a look. With an EV charger with an app you set a session from your phone and see when the battery is full.
All three sit in our 11 kW range. For the plainest option, our EV chargers for home use are the place to start.
How long does the BMW X3 xDrive30e take to charge?
The sum is simple. A 10.8 kWh battery divided by 3.7 kW comes out at roughly 3 hours for a full charge. On an ordinary socket at 2.3 kW you are looking at about 5 hours instead. A wall-mounted charger is faster, but the real gain is a fixed, safe connection you use every day. On a full battery you drive up to 55 km fully electric on the WLTP cycle, Europe's standard test method.
The X3 xDrive30e uses a Type 2 socket. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable for public charge points on the road. At home you charge through the fixed cable or the socket of your charger.

Frequently asked questions
Does the BMW X3 xDrive30e need a three-phase connection?
No. This X3 charges at 3.7 kW on a single phase, so one circuit is enough. A three-phase charger is fine to use, but the car will not charge any faster on it. Three phases only start to pay off once you drive a fully electric car.
Why does a MID meter matter for this charger?
A MID-certified kWh meter measures your charging on its own calibrated register. Without one you only see a single household total, and your car's share disappears into it. With one you can price a full battery to the cent.
Should I have the charger installed?
We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is the safest way to connect it, and many insurers expect professional installation. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Outside those three countries we ship worldwide, but we do not install. You can check the options on our EV charger installation page.
