Byton M-Byte 95 kWh EV charger: which one fits best?
The Byton M-Byte 95 kWh charges at home at 11 kW of alternating current as standard. Ordered with the optional 22 kW onboard charger it becomes one of the few electric SUVs that takes the full 22 kW, provided you have a three phase connection. Worth knowing: Byton suspended operations in 2021 and its Nanjing companies were declared bankrupt in 2023, so the M-Byte never reached series production. Which EV charger suits the Byton M-Byte 95 kWh?
With the standard 11 kW onboard charger, an 11 kW three phase charger gets everything out of the car and fills the large 95 kWh battery overnight. With the optional 22 kW onboard charger the same battery is back to full in roughly half that time, and a 22 kW charger is then worth the step up. Few cars justify 22 kW at all, so check the option list before you buy.
Choose a charger with a MID meter, a certified kWh meter that records exactly what goes into the car. You need certified readings whenever someone else has to accept your charging figures: an employer, a lease company, a landlord or an owners' association. Without them, every one of those settlements is an estimate. In the Netherlands there is an extra reason: from 2026 private drivers can earn back up to 500 euros a year through their energy supplier, but only with a certified meter, and that scheme applies in the Netherlands only. At this power level one feature is close to essential. A charger with dynamic load balancing lowers its output by itself when the rest of the house draws heavily, which is what lets a heavy three phase charger run without tripping your main fuse. How long does the Byton M-Byte 95 kWh take to charge?
You get a rough charging time by dividing the battery capacity by the charging power and then allowing for charging losses. For the M-Byte that comes out at about 8.5 hours on an 11 kW charger, so exactly one night, and about 4.5 hours if your car has the optional 22 kW onboard charger. On the road the M-Byte charges via DC at up to 150 kW, taking the battery from 0 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes.

Does the Byton M-Byte 95 kWh need a three phase connection?
For 11 kW and for 22 kW you need a three phase connection; the 22 kW version needs 32 amps per phase. On a single phase connection the charging power drops to a maximum of 7.4 kW. If your supply is limited, a charger with dynamic load balancing turns the power down automatically so your circuit does not trip.
Why does a MID meter matter on the M-Byte?
A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records precisely how much electricity you charge. That is what makes a settlement with an employer or a lease company hold up, and privately it lets you prove your consumption to a landlord or an owners' association. In the Netherlands it is also the condition for the scheme that lets private drivers earn back up to 500 euros a year from 2026, which applies in the Netherlands only. With the M-Byte's large battery that consumption runs up quickly, so the registration is worth having.
Should I have the charger installed?
We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician, which is safer and important for your insurance. Rules differ from country to country, so check what applies where you live: in Germany, for example, every charger has to be registered with the grid operator and anything above 11 kW needs its approval as well.
