The Fisker Karma is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) built in 2011 and 2012, with a fairly small 20.1 kWh battery and a petrol engine that takes over once the battery runs flat. For home charging, that 3.3 kW AC figure is the only number that matters. The Karma uses a Type 1 (SAE J1772) inlet, while the chargers in our range use the Type 2 socket that is standard across Europe. A Type 1 to Type 2 charging cable bridges that gap, so you plug into a modern charger without any workaround.

Which EV charger suits the Fisker Karma?

Because the Karma tops out at 3.3 kW, every charger we sell is quick enough for it. So pick on features and build quality instead of speed. Two things deserve your attention.

Start with a calibrated kWh meter. A charger with a built-in MID meter records exactly how much energy went into the car, and that reading is what an employer or leasing company asks for before reimbursing a charging session. How long does the Fisker Karma take to charge?

The sum is simple: 20.1 kWh of battery divided by 3.3 kW of charging power works out at roughly 6 hours for a completely empty battery. Plug the Karma in when you get home and it is full by morning. Because the Karma also carries a petrol engine, you never actually wait for a charge, but topping up at home every day keeps the electric kilometres the cheapest ones you drive.

Do I need a charger with a MID meter for the Fisker Karma?

The car does not need one, but you do if you want your charging costs back. A MID certified kWh meter is calibrated, so the reading holds up as proof towards an employer or a leasing company. Dutch drivers have an extra reason, because the national scheme that pays back up to 500 euro a year only accepts a calibrated meter. That scheme applies in the Netherlands only.

Can the Fisker Karma use a DC fast charger?

No. The Fisker Karma has no DC fast charging capability. You always charge it over AC at up to 3.3 kW, either at home or at a public AC charging point.
