Which EV charger suits the Mercedes eSprinter?

The eSprinter charges on one phase only. A 7.4 kW charger on a single-phase 32 A supply therefore gets the most out of the van. You may connect an 11 kW or 22 kW unit, but the van never draws more than 7.4 kW. You would be paying for capacity you cannot use. A charger whose power you can set is useful here, because you can match it to what your fuse board carries.

How long does the Mercedes eSprinter take to charge?

Charging time follows from your charging power. The sum is simple: usable battery capacity divided by power. Take a 7.4 kW charger on a single-phase 32 A supply. The 47 kWh battery then goes from empty to full in about 6.5 hours. Plug the van in during the evening and it is ready in the morning.

On a lighter supply the eSprinter charges more slowly. On an 11 kW three-phase charger it stays at 3.7 kW, which roughly doubles the time. Public DC rapid charging, on direct current, is much faster. For daily use at home or at work, a 7.4 kW charger is almost always enough.

The eSprinter has a type 2 (Mennekes) connector. Some chargers have a socket instead of a fixed cable. With one of those you need a type 2 charging cable rated for at least 7.4 kW, because a lighter 3.7 kW cable cannot carry this van's charging power.

Installing your eSprinter EV charger

A 7.4 kW charger asks for a single-phase supply of at least 32 A and its own circuit in the fuse board. On a 1x25 A supply you will need to upgrade first, unless your electrician can free up enough capacity elsewhere.
