Nissan Ariya 87 kWh EV charger: which one fits best?
The Nissan Ariya 87 kWh comes with a 22 kW onboard charger. That charger draws 32 A per phase, so it only reaches 22 kW on a three-phase connection. Three-phase means your home has three live wires instead of one. Do check which onboard charger your own car has, because some markets deliver the Ariya with a 7.4 kW charger. For the Nissan Ariya 87 kWh we recommend a charger from our 22 kW EV chargers.
A 22 kW charger does need a three-phase supply of 32 A per phase. If your supply is three-phase but fused at 16 A, an 11 kW EV charger still charges the Ariya at 11 kW. You are full again overnight. On a single-phase supply the Ariya charges at 7.4 kW.
Has your Ariya got the 7.4 kW onboard charger? Then a bigger charger will not charge it any faster. An 11 kW charger would actually halve it to 3.7 kW, because it draws 16 A from a single phase. A 7.4 kW EV charger is the right match.

Which EV charger suits the Nissan Ariya 87 kWh?
The 22 kW onboard charger reaches full speed only on a 22 kW charger with a three-phase 32 A connection. With the 22 kW onboard charger, an 11 kW charger charges the Ariya at 11 kW. The charger sets that limit, not the car. On a single-phase connection the Ariya still takes 7.4 kW, because the onboard charger keeps drawing its 32 A.
Most chargers with a built-in MID meter sit in the 22 kW range. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter inside the charger. It shows exactly what your charging costs, separate from the rest of your household use. That works out well here, because 22 kW is also the category that uses this onboard charger fully.

How long does it take to charge the Nissan Ariya 87 kWh?
Start from the usable battery of 87 kWh and divide it by the charging power. On an 11 kW charger a full charge takes about 8 hours, well within a night. Charging losses add a little time to that figure. With a 22 kW charger and a suitable three-phase connection you need about 5 hours, charging losses included. On a single-phase connection the car charges at 7.4 kW, which takes about 13.5 hours, again including losses. On the road, the CCS connector fast charges at up to 130 kW, good for roughly 30 minutes from 10% to 80%.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need a 22 kW EV charger for the Nissan Ariya 87 kWh?
You do not strictly need one, but it is the fastest option at home. With a three-phase 32 A connection, a 22 kW charger uses the onboard charger in full. On a 16 A three-phase supply an 11 kW EV charger is more than enough for daily driving.
Why does a MID meter matter for the Nissan Ariya 87 kWh?
A MID-certified kWh meter records your charging accurately. You then see what topping up this 87 kWh battery costs, separate from your household use. We always advise a qualified electrician for the connection. That is safer, and many insurers expect a qualified installation. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium you can order installation together with your charger; in Germany it runs via a free quote. We ship worldwide, but installation stays within those three countries.
