Which EV charger fits the Opel Zafira-e Life 50 kWh?
Start with the onboard charger in your own van. With the 7.4 kW onboard charger on single-phase, a 7.4 kW EV charger gives you everything the vehicle accepts. A heavier charger adds nothing in that case, because the van caps the power itself. Does your Zafira-e Life have the 11 kW three-phase onboard charger? Then an 11 kW EV charger is the better match. It cuts a full charge from about 7.5 hours to roughly 5.
Pay attention to the meter when you choose. An MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records your charging down to the kilowatt hour. That is what makes a home charging session billable to your employer or your leasing company. From 2026 drivers in the Netherlands get a second benefit from that same meter. The Dutch ERE registration scheme pays up to 500 euro a year, and it is available in the Netherlands only.
Two categories are worth a look beyond charging speed. Go for an EV charger with an MID meter if the kilowatt hours have to be accounted for. Do you have solar panels? A charger with solar charging sends your own surplus straight to the van instead of to the grid. That suits a vehicle standing still for hours during the day. Charging mainly at home? The van has a Type 2 connection. At home you charge through the fixed connection of the charger. A separate type 2 charging cable is only needed at a public charge point.
How long does the Opel Zafira-e Life 50 kWh take to charge?
On a 7.4 kW charger a full charge takes about 7 to 7.5 hours. The sum: 46.3 usable kWh divided by 7.4 kW works out at roughly 6.3 hours in theory. Charging losses bring the practical figure to about 7.5 hours. With the 11 kW onboard charger you are down to roughly 5 hours. Plug the Zafira-e Life in during the evening and it is fully charged by morning. That holds even after a long day of driving. Per hour you add roughly 35 to 50 kilometres of range, depending on your consumption.
